The Charlatans

New album released on the 26th May, features some interesting guest appearances from Jonny Marr and Paul Weller amongst others. Tim Burgess and  co have come up with some really clever marketing ideas for this, one of which includes a Charlatans take over of Oldham St in Manchester on album release day.

Big fan myself and thought they dealt with the tough Other Stage opening slot pretty well the other year. Any chance of a slot on this years line up do we think? I'd love to see them up The Park, would be fantastic! Chances appear very slim though.

I used to love them. Would always make an effort to go and see them. The eponymous album remains one of my faves. Perfect summer album.

So who's enjoying the new record? I gave it a spin on my commute to work this morning, thoroughly enjoyable. Different Days a particular highlight which ends with a spoken word piece then straight into the brilliant Plastic Machinery.

Looking forward to hearing it live, albeit, highly unlikely it'll be on the farm this year :(

Haven't dived into the new record yet. Infact I've never really given them much time. I do like Plastic Machinery though.

Where do I start? What do I avoid? Etc etc.

Definitely start with their eponymous 4th album or Telling Stories. Bith are utterly fantastic albums. The eponymous one is the perfect record to kick back to while the sun is shining.

There is so much to them though and they are a very good album band.

Looking forward to giving the new one a listen tonight.

To be honest mate, I only really started following them off the back of seeing them live during the Modern Nature tour, their previous album, so consider me a new fan.

That said, I've had a lot of fun going through their catalogue of records, I've almost done it backwards. Tim's books are both worth a read too :)

Excellent. Sun is scorching in Liverpool today so I'll give the eponymous record a spin on my way back from work later.

Basically tellin stories, the charlatans and some friendly are the most consistent. The last album was the best in absolute years too.

Cheers! Looks like Telling Stories and The Charlatans are fan favourites then.

Yeah man, there's plenty there to work through but I'm always interested in where people recommend to start. Like I said, I'm into the new single so looking forward to diving in. Im pretty sure Tim's doing some sort of talk at Sound City this weekend but I think clashes will mean I'm elsewhere. Will definitely look into his books though.

You go see them this morning at the album launch? There's a fair bit happening in northern quarter apparently with them today.

No mate I have been in work. I am contemplating going now but think most of it is over and done with. No chance I am going Gary Nevilles hotel for whatever is going on there.
