If they're gonna do "secret opener" like previous years it won't be someone on the poster. LAst year Tim announced on Radio 6 so they appeared on the poster and were never billed as a surprise.

Yeah, I was just working on the basis that it may not be a surprise again and looked at the poster for a band that sort of fitted the profile. I agree though, its a band yet to be announced

It's Glasto, there won't be a nice cheque in it, certainly not for that slot.

The point is they are next door anyway so it involves minimal effort for the pay cheque. JDB won't need to drag himself away from his palatial Chiswick abode - he can even stop off at Glasto on the way back from Bristol, play songs for an hour and say cheerio.

my point w/ Manics earlier was 'yes' it could be done (11am) but unlikely that a past Glastonbury headliner needs to finish up a 11pm gig, inevitably hang out with a crowd post headline gig, go to bed at 1/2am and make it for an 11am stage opening next day at the most prestigious festival. I'm excited to see the Manics this year, but i'm sure it will be much later Fri or Saturday even.

i have no proof, haven't checked, but i highly doubt that Beady Eye, Kaiser Chiefs (or Blondie, even), Charlatans, or James played a late night gig on the Thursday priors (finishing up at 11pm, maybe later) and then agreed to do 11am the next day at Worthy Farm. Just not something that bands of that caliber/accomplishment (awaits the Liam-Beady Eye quips) would feel like they need to do at this point in their careers w/ potential of courting disaster.

Elbow on the other hand...perfect for them. One of the handful of "house bands"... No egos about going from pryamid sub to opening the Other. They'd relish it.... Guy Garvey's favorite place on earth, he'll have a pint in hand at 11, and he gets a full day to enjoy the festival before they head off to their forest show the next day. It's them!!!

Tbh I don't think they're gonna be there at all myself - much like James Bay last year I reckon they'll do this other show and give Glastonbury a miss. I'd love them to be there but there isn't really any reason for them to be booked again.

It's not. It might be Elbow, or the Kooks, etc. But it 100% is not Shaggy. If it is I'll pay for your festival ticket.
