I used to get Biffy Clyro and Take That mixed up. Thought I could hear a TT ballad being played ironically between sets from the Pyramid in 2010 but it turned out to be BC belting out a hit.

/40 Days - Lot of stages = Lot of headliners/sub headliners. Acts of a size appropriate to the stage/venue they are appearing. The poster contains probably less than a tenth of the full lineup. Hang on until the full stage lineups are released and then evaluate would be my advice.

Some years it's taken me a little time and digging to unearth the gems that don't immediately glitter.

Last thing, if you've not been before I can honestly say the first time you could easily fill the 4/5 days with all the other distractions and come away having had a great time. Also remember that you can't see everything, you only need to find a couple of bands a day and things will happen from there. Plenty of times I've set off for a band I really want to see and never made it because Glastonbury.

It will be great and you will enjoy it, probably.

Fwiw, Alligator is a good starting point with the National. It's when they really found their sound. I'd work my way forward from there and then go back to Cherry Tree. The first two are undercooked and for the enthusiasts.

FJM's second album is a belter. First one is similar but had a smaller budget so lacks the bells and whistles. I like the new stuff but it takes longer to click than the second album because the themes are heavier. You have to buy into the pretension or it won't do anything for you.

I'd go along with that although I have a personal fondness for Cherry Tree. First 2 I could take or leave though.

For those wanting to get into The National this is a fantastic live set from a couple of years ago, so assume a similar set.

I love Cherry Tree, but it took 4 years of listening to the others to!

Father John Misty, "I Love You Honeybear" is pretty damn amazing and it's probably where you should start. It's an incredible album. However I fear he'll mostly play his new album which is kinda dull so far.

It took me ages with some of the new stuff,  but it's clicked. Lyrically it's far beyond what other melancholy pop songwriters are doing or even seem capable. I think it suffers sonically for that but it's tough to get both bang on.

With The National, I liked them on record, but didn't love them.  Then when they headlined Latitude, we discovered that they are utterly fantastic live, I would say far better than on record.

I'm with OP here, I'll be spending a lot of time on Spotify listening to quite a lot of the bands announced this morning.  Which to me, is part of the excitement of the big poster reveal and the beauty of Glasto - so much variation.

Hearing a lot of people get excited about Justice, where do you start with them?

Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and Circa Waves sound like the sort of thing I could get into. Any pointers?

Circa Waves only released their second album recently - Different Creatures - which is pretty good if you're into indie/guitar music.  The first track on the new album sounded very Arctic Monkeys-y to me.  The big hit from the first album was T-shirt Weather, which you might recognise when you hear it.

I think they'll go down well on the Other stage, hopefully a (sunny) afternoon slot.

I can't let this pass without ensuring you've seen @Brave Sir Robin masterpiece...

I'd just get a couple of National albums in your music collection (maybe Boxer and High Violet) and let the songs shuffle on every now and then. They'll slowly seep into your consciousness.

The albums are all great to listen to through as well - but if you're new to them then you might end up getting tired...

Cross. They have a live album of that as well which gives you an idea of how they sound live.

Phoenix too...they good then?

Instead of suggesting you listen to a whole album straight up. I would listen to these three songs first perhaps.

  • 1901 (Wolfgang)
  • If I ever feel better (United)
  • chloroform (Bankrupt)

If you like all those listen to Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix start to fin. Only 10 (awesome) songs.
