you're welcome mate.

They are essentially debit cards but not if that makes sense. They're a good thing, I used to have one at Uni when the father had to loan me money he would put it on there and I'd have to ration it :P

I've put my name down as a volunteer. I should be able to call upon several of our group to help out for the resale. Let me know if I can be of help arranging it all, as I've experience from last year.

I'd strongly advise all those desperate for tickets to get as many friends, as well as efest helpers, to help you (Just, of course, make sure the group of 4 applicants is consistent throughout everyone who is helping). I was lucky enough to have at least 12 helping me in the last resale, so getting a ticket proved relatively easy.

I used one whilst travelling so as to avoid foreign exchange charges. They do a job but arent the best.

How are people proposing using them for this little project? One person per group has control of one and the others pay their monies into it prior to the resale? then everyone trying for that group uses those card details?

Apologies if I have completely missed the point on this one.

I missed out, and had about 5 friends all trying for me but still no luck, admittedly they weren't from these boards so don't have the wisdom you lot do!

If anyone can help me in the resales I'd be beyond grateful. How do I go about doing this? I'm reluctant to PM people and bother them.

My idea in my case was to put the money myself to cover 4 tickets on it, and then tell the card details to the person from efests who is going to help out. That way they don't have to use their own monies.

If tickets are bought, great, if not then I still have the card and can withdraw the funds as cash.

Also dont mind me while I post another 58 straight messages. Got to hit that 1000 one way of another.

Personally I think I'd take in to account the length of time someone had been on here as well ie when they first registered. You have a good innings at 4th March 2010.

I'd love to assist but have already volunteered my services to another efester.

Wishing you luck in the sale.

But I'd say that's unfair to younger posters and people who havent been before or only recently started going or only recently discovered eFestivals

Possibly is. I haven't read the entire thread, but are you proposing to give your bank details out to a newbie? If you are, then good luck to you.

There's just something that doesn't sit right for me about being too exclusionary as I wonder what it's like for relatively new eFestivalers who are desperate for tickets too who then read this thread and find out they aren't allowed to be helped because they don't fit the criteria. I also get your point about not having people being ripped off either.

I would be wary of giving my details to new posters (and by post count I look new but signed up in 2004 :P ). Any chancer could sign up and say they'll help and make off with the money. But as others have mentioned its when people group up and get to know eachother between now and resale day they will have a better idea of who to trust. If resale day was today, I'm sure many wouldn't entertain the idea. People had mentioned a cut off. Theres quite a few on the list now and I'd imagine most of the regulars around here would have seen this and added their names already. So the list could be closed at the end of this month or sooner, sort the groups and its up to people to figure out who to trust or not to trust!

Haha. To be fair I would have been on here from 2009 I'm guessing - took the plunge in 2010, regretted it until 2014 and now cant tear myself away.

(and by regret I mean didnt really participate)

I understand and agree with what you are saying. I wouldn't want anybody to feel excluded, but also would wish to educate this group on why some people will be forced to take a common sense approach to giving out there bank details. I offered to help out very late last Saturday night for anyone wanting help purchasing tickets. I got three takers and was able to get one of them a ticket. However, if it wasn't for me being a long term poster I don't think any of them would have passed me their bank account details, and I couldn't blame them for not doing so.

Surely it's easy to distinguish between a genuine newbie, and a newbie whose first post happens to be one about getting help in the resale?

Not sure about that - anybody could come on here and kick ball for a few posts before asking if anybody needed help buying tickets.

Thats what makes me think it would be better to close the sheet off soon and organise the groups. Those groups then would be in contact with eachother and get to know eachother between now and the resale day. If you dont hear from someone until ticket day you'd be less likely to trust them. Its going to be harder for the newer people, thats just the way it is. Its everyones own decision how to go about this with regards to payment. I dont think I'd like handing over my bank details. Easiest will be the likes of 2 seperate couples in the one group both trying for themselves eachother with their own details, no need for handing over details (obviously twice the amount coming off the card), then the transfer the money to the couple successful. Its when we have volunteers who have already got tickets trying that will be an issue, especially if for a larger group.

I've had some offers of help but I probably won't be sorting anything until nearer the time to make sure I've got the right details (I.e just me and the boy of my friend who I was trying for too Sunday). Lots can happen between now and April! Great to see so much comradery here though :)

Thanks (seriously!) for raising this here, and at least making think about the fact that there's risks.

I'd love to think that everyone posting here can be trusted, but I've no way of knowing if that's true and I'd hate to see anyone ripped off.

There is always going to be risk involved with this. I would rather pay off my own card for people I am helping and vice versa and if the funds don't get out in my bank I would imagine if you called see on the same day they would refund the ticket minus an admin fee and put it in the secret resale allocation. Not a huge risk doing it this way.

I think its a little unfair throwing around the clique insinuations when theres a hefty wedge of cash been knocked about. People are either gonna feel comfortable or they aint.

Best thing to do is, if you're new to the site and want help is to get involved. Its usually very little to do with the post count and more to do with your interaction.

I too can understand why people would be nervous about giving out bank details to unknown entities, but it seems like a bit of a strange way to con people out of some cash. I guess you never know though.

I'll try to build up some cred over the next few months, but I don't want to go around spamming nonsense.

Worst case scenario, maybe I can team up with some other newbies? Just keen for us all to get to the festival, really.
