Leaving the Festival

Previous years I just float out when I feel upto it on the Monday. But last year we got stuck in HELLA traffic leaving from blue car park 9-9:30ish. Took use 5hrs to get back to Bridgwater!!! 

If we were to leave before 7am will he have a clear run?

I'd say more like 5am for a clear run. It gets busy stupidly early getting out of glasto

I prefer to wait around and let things clear rather than get caught in heavy traffic on a hot day, as I've had a few lousy journeys home where it takes hours just to get past Bristol.  Honestly there's no predicting it, every year peaks and troughs in different directions are timed differently.  There's no way I'd want to pack up and go Sunday night or early Monday morning, far too depressing a thought.

It may be slightly better at seven.

It took me four hours to travel forty miles heading north one year and I think I left at about midday.

If you are heading Londonwards the A303 is always a gridlock nightmare.

My boring twat mates left straight after the headliners one year and apparently had a clean run.

This year it's public transport for me and I think I have seriously messed up. Thought I'd booked an open ended return from London but turns out it's only for a specific train. Got to be there for 2:50pm ish and the earliest bus for me leaves Glasto at nine. I can see me not making that.

I've got into the habit of getting everything to the car and then going back onsite until late afternoon. You can get cheap food and my regular massage place is usually still open. The A303 is still a nightmare even at that time.

In 2014 I made the mistake of waking up late and leaving at midday. It took 11 hours to get to Kent. Not only was Glastonbury traffic dire but also the m25! I always leave bright and early now and don't have problems

Must depend where you park! In previous years we've never really bothered getting up too early, and got a fairly clean run. Never really taken more than a few hours to get up to Nottingham. One year though we were stuck in one of the orange car parks for over an hour, but once we were out it was fine. Not rushing too early is the future!

Left CV East last year, Monday around 06:30, on a proper road in 10 mins, back in Manchester by lunchtime, for me it's worth leaving early and managed to avoid any serious queues for several years now. Downside is a more sober Sunday.

It depends where you are parked and even the position you are put in the field we left at between 10 and 11 last year and straight out onto the open roads within 10 mins last year , pot luck im afraid

Im normally in the pink car parks so the tip from me is to avoid going back through Glastonbury town to get to the M5, set your sat-nav to Cheddar Gorge and try to keep clear of Bristol unless you live there

Leave it up to the driver, I'll go when he does! Left early last time, think he may go the same again. We left at 6ish and had a clear run north.

if you are in your car by 7am, unless the carparks are a boggy mess, you'll be out quickly.  I reckon 8.30 it starts ramping up.

After a few years of being caught in some horrendous queues (9 hours to Bristol once),  I have sacked off leaving early.  I really go for it on the Sunday, stay up as late as possible, have a lie in on the Monday, a leisurely late morning and lunch. Then an unhurried trip to the car once Worthy FM suggests the worst is over.

I camped in darble last year. I moved my car to the car park just outside pga Wednesday afternoon. In the car by half 5 and back in Lincolnshire by 1030

We're taking a hire car that needs to be back in Glasgow for 19.30 on Monday night,  time should we be leaving?

My coach departs 9.30am. Not sure that is good or not with regards queues. From the comments here I guess not, damn it.

With a clear run you should do Glasgow in  8 hours. I've done Glasgow in 6 hours from Berkshire before with just the briefest of stops on motorway to change drivers

Think safest bet is to go early and avoid the worst of it - get away by 7?

 Coaches get some degree of priority getting out - if the roads are gridlocked it's a nightmare anyway, but it's not like the coaches have to queue for ages to get out of a carpark.

I always leave as late as possible. Waited a whole year for it, and want to enjoy every monent and really don't want to have that heavy feeling on Sunday knowing that I need to leave early

i always find Sunday mornings hard walking into the site from the cv fields with lots of people packing up their cars ready to get away , feels so like the party is nearky over when actaully there's still 20% of it left

Us too. We wake up late on Monday, go for wander around the festival site for a coffee and to look at any bargains that are still on display while the stall holders are packing up, and then we go back to the caravan to pack up our own stuff. Tend not to leave till about 5pm having had a lovely leisurely day. Bliss!

stay as late as possible on Monday! some shops hand out freebies to those nearby (usually baps or leftover bread - not sure if this is true of the whole site but definitely true of pennard hill vendors for the past two years) and if it's a nice day there are always leftover gazebos to 'borrow' for shade. 

we normally leave around 5pm and there's no traffic or queues to get out and you get as much festival as possible!

We always go back down to site for  a wander and aim to be going around 1.30-2 ish, but that's only because we have to get the campervan back to Taunton by a reasonable hour and then us back to Poole for the ferry the next morning, else I'd stay until Tuesday if I could lol

last year we lugged a huge wooden mushroom back up the hill , which now sits proudly in the garden, (may just have to get a matching one this year lol )

Last year we must have went at around 1:30pm I reckon, advantage was we were in disabled field and car park is right on the road - we had a clear run of traffic all the way back to stonehenge then had to sit stock still in the van as nothing was moving for about an hour. Every time we got out to stretch our legs the traffic crawled forward! 

I don't think it really matters when you leave but be prepared for queues getting out the car parks. When we used to park in the general campsites and therefore park in the public car parks we found unless you leave virtually straight after the headliners you get fucked by queues. But hey this is Britain, we love queues here
