Glastogoers get a postal vote!

Breeze

Recommended Posts

Given the fact the attendees at Glasto could be a bigger number than the winning margin in the Brexit referendum(sounds like it could be *very* close), I hope everyone eligible to vote has applied for a postal vote!

Glasto goers could swing it and many will be there by Thursday or too busy getting ready/travelling to vote any other way.

Just takes 1 min to register to vote online here (there is an option to get a postal vote when you fill it in).

Cheers,

Breeze.

Do you actually have to post the form requesting a postal vote? Seems very archaic

Depends on your council (don't complain, you wanted more local control, you got it). Check their election services page to see if it can be emailed or a form filled in instead.

I took my form into my local council office in Southampton on Friday. You will get a notification by mail when they send you your voting slip or you could check in with them after a few days or so to make sure that they have it.

One important thing to remember is that postal vote applications need to be sent to your council no later than 5pm, 11 working days before the vote takes place.

I sent my form in about a week ago, does anyone know if you get any notification that it's been processed or is it just a case of wait till June and see what happens

Sent ours in about 2 weeks ago and got an acceptance letter through on Thursday but I think it will be different for each council.

Give ones head a thorough shake!

I'd really like to know the reasons you think this: it's a monumental decision that will affect our country forever; is it just insularity, xenophobia or something else?

Our current government definitely needs putting in check, but this isn't the right way to do it. The "out" leaders are significantly more evil than the dishface that is our current PM. The minute that Boris Johnson aligned himself to the Brexit campaign two things happened: one, our currency took a massive fall against both the euro and the dollar, two, London the city he is currentlymayor for was shown that he cares little for his city, only for his political career. If the "out" campaign loses, he can blame Gove.  If they win, he sets himself up to stage a coup to remove Cameron. Trust me, this is a problem.

Our mainstream media is owned by four individuals who would love nothing more than to have our great country exit from Europe. There will be no reasoned debate in The Times, The Sun, The Telegraph, The Daily Mail or The Express as they are owned by Murdoch (who declared that he wants to be out of Europe as he can control the UK government but not Europe), the Barclay Brothers (who exile themselves in tax-free Channel Islands), Lord Rothermere and Richard Desmond who have substantial interests in us leaving.

Our currency dropping against the Euro or the Dollar is significant: we are a net importer of goods. We make very little - our export economy is based solely on Services, only 10% of it is manufactured goods. The prices of imported goods goes up with falling currency rates. If we still made anything, exporters would benefit. However, we have neglected our industry to the extent that fianancial and professional services are what now drives our economy. This isn't going to change any time soon.

A short-sighted vote now will leave is in catastrophic trading capacity. There will be no easy way for us to set-up trade agreements with Europe or with other major trading partners as they will have the ability to negotiate hard and demand huge concessions from us. Anyone who tells you otherwise is simply being naive.

Longest post I've ever contributed to efestivals and I apologise. I am really passionate about the democratic process and I hope we can all make the most of the opportunity to vote wisely.

I never really bother with politics, I vote but I usually vote for the best of a bad bunch. Actually voted conservative in the general election as I actually don't mind Cameron and he's been reasonably ok for a conservative.

This EU vote worries me though, it already has descended into mud slinging like the Scottish referendum.

I need to register this week and make sure I get it sent off. I don't want to open the Glastonbury paper and see we are no longer in Europe and know I didn't vote.

I sent in mine a few weeks ago (Rushcliffe BC)

Got a letter back about 2 weeks later that basically said "we've got your request, we're not going to bother dealing with it until after the police commissioner elections".

So looks like they're prioritising the six people that will bother to vote for a PCC.

Got mine sorted a few weeks ago.  Did the online thing and then spoke to my local council Electoral Registration Department who confirmed I'd now been postalised.

If we end up with an In Vote Boris is washed up or with an Out Vote out Nigel Farage is out of a job - tough call.

There was an earlier theory that I read about on beeb news when Boris declared his intention which suggested that he didn't want out or expect them to win, hence his change from an earlier view, but that by supporting that campaign then after we voted to remain he could mop up the sympathy votes of the disappointed tories in their leadership election.

an interesting read...

however - i feel that anybody truly bothered about the democratic process would not be so pro-EU.

also, there's nothing xenophobic about wanting to enhance our relationships with the rest of the world, not just europe. makes me laugh when the remain campaign resort back to the same old 'racist' / little englander insinuations time and time again....it's tiresome tbh.

people should just accept that there are reasonable views to be held on both sides of this debate.

Ok, here's something about the EU: remember the elections for your MEP? Well, they're truly proportional representation and a great way to demonstrate democratic process. The fact that many treat them as an irrelevance is painful; many parties in the last election didn't even have a manifesto of what they would positively do as part of the European Parliament.

There are, indeed, I'm sure, some positive things on both sides of the debate and as you'll see in my very first line I would be keen to hear them.

Regarding your comment about forming ties with the rest of the world, I completely agree. However this means setting up new trading partnerships now in a position where we have a significant disadvantage outside of the EU due to our limited size, limited influence and a lateness to join the party of trade with, for example, China. What benefit does it give those trading partners to grant us more favourable deals outside of the EU?

i think we will just have to agree to disagree annax :)

irrespective of what reasons i put forward for my wanting to leave the eu, you are not going to accept them...and that is of course fine.

the economic argument is not my primary concern, although i don't think we get good value from being in the eu at all.

i fundamentally disagree that we should discriminate against citizens from the rest of the world when selecting who can / should be able to come here.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
