End of Friday update:

BBC/Met Office - Dry and cloudy/sunny, except light rain on Thursday.

Netweather - Generally very dry, possible risk of bit of rain Friday (it'll be around 0.5mm at most)

Worldweather online - Same as Netweather

Metcheck - completely dry, sunny and cloudy all weekend.

Accuweather - Weds and Thurs looking risky with isolated showers, but then dry and sunny for rest of weekend.

GFS charts currently updating - but last completely dry and no sign of rain (maybe a little on Thurs but that's negiligable) across whole weekend.

I would say that's a win for the day considering what we started with this morning.

so basically: a bit of rain and sunshine - like every other year?

Why?  Have they all travelled forward in time a week?

Lead up to it is key though, if the ground doesn't have a chance to settle it's going to be a mess no matter how it is next week

I agree. Consider the fact that the site dries in about 24/ 48 hours, can everyone stop banging on about the site now? Get a grip

But if this is true, no need to panic just yet.

Lead up is way, way less key than the actual overhead conditions when there are 100k people there.

Hot sun is key. Can turn a foot of mud into trainers-suitable forgiving ground in 8 hours.

The Sunday in 2011 we were able to sit on baked mud for Paul Simon (who was a tad shit btw); that was after 4 days of moisture, including setting up in the wet stuff.

I wouldn't be too disheartened by the current site conditions. This time next week we won't give a flying fig about the weather :)

We were sitting down by the time of the Low Anthem that day, which was a good span of time before Paul Simon had even arrived on site.

Indeedy :)

In fact sun cream was the order of the day.

2014 was my first Glastonbury - that thunderstorm shutting down the stages was a right pain. I remember standing there thinking "it'll probably pass" and then getting pretty soaked before realising I should just leg it back to the tent. Luckily we'd borrowed a massive 6-man tent with a big separate from the bedroom, you-can-stand-up-in-here area so me and the missus stripped off and let our stuff dry out in there. Got quite sunny by the end of the festival in the end but the mud stuck around. Couldn't really complain seeing as it was my first time. Went again last year and while there was a couple of showers it actually was pretty nice for the rest of the fest - it had been so hot beforehand that the rain dried up and the ground was nice and springy and not massively muddy.

Third time's the charm - I won't accept anything other than blazing sunshine this time around!

Wind helps as well, a good breeze that moves the cloud cover on and off at a decent interval is basically perfect festival weather.
