definitely make up my own. far more fun, and far easier to do in the inebriated state i'll no doubt be in - no state for remembering made up words and Icelandic

Announced an intimate tour of the US with reinterpretations of old songs they haven't played in a while alongside new stuff, and without the accompinment of string or brass sections. Could be interesting if they're doing similar at the festival, and also explains why they're seemingly headlining a smaller stage

For purely selfish reasons I hope they don't do this at Glastonbury.

They toured [album with Gobbledigook on] in pared down fashion and pulled it off - but that was when Kjarten was still in the band.

There's only four of them on the live album Inni isn't there? Been a few years since I saw that but it seemed decent. I'd rather a full band thing with strings and brass though. 

I suppose we'll be able to see the setlists from their first few festivals anyway and I'm guessing Primavera will stream their set so we'll hopefully have a decent idea of what the tour will be like before Glastonbury.

The press release says "in keeping with the scale of the venues, the group will be performing without the string and brass sections" which makes me think the european leg will still have those since they only do festival headline slots and a scaled down show wouldn't really fit "the scale of the venues".

It'll be interesting to see how they set up at Glastonbury.

I've seen them in pretty much 'all' of their incarnations over the years, from the 'classic' format of the four of them plus Amiina for some songs, not for others, through Latitude with a full marching oompah band for certain songs (including the magnificent coda of Olsen Olsen), to just the four of them getting back to basics, and then finally the pre-Kveikur model of (for me) just too many extra musicians on stage for the whole set (minus Kjarten, of course).

Of those, the latest incarnation is my least favourite. It made them sound a bit too like a really talented band playing Sigur Rós songs, without actually being SR! And I do miss Kjarten. I love watching him ping the pinger in Svefn-g-englar!

But, even though I've probably seen my best ever SR gig (Hammersmith Apollo 2006 - they gave me HALF of (  ), so how could I complain?!), I am SOOOOO excited to see them at Glastonbury, one of my favourite bands of all time in one of my very favourite places.

They've just announced a couple of shows in Edinburgh in August. I'll still hopefully see them at Glastonbury but this should help with the inevitable clashes!

I've waited for so long for them to play Glastonbury, every single year these are the one band I want to see at the festival more than any other. Finally they are playing and it's the one year I may not be able to attend, I'm still trying to sort something out but I'm not sure how likely it is that I'll have the money to pay the balance before tomorrow

God it would be really nice to have the big Glasto poster so I could know if I can see them and therefore whether to buy tickets to this or not.

I'll probably buy tickets for one of the Edinburgh gigs anyway as they're not too expensive and even if it turns out they don't clash with someone decent at Glastonbury (highly unlikely) I'm sure I can cope with seeing them twice. But yeah, even just knowing what day they're playing would be a big help at the moment.

Yeah if I was local I probably would, but I don't wanna book a gig that'd require travel and accommodation when there's a chance I'll see them in 2 months

I really like Kveikur too, probably their best album after the other three you mentioned. It was the first album of theirs released after I was a fan so Kjartan leaving didn't really bother me as I couldn't tell the difference. It was good to see them move in a different direction though, the heavier sound really suits them.

yeah i love Kveilkur. thought Valtari was a pretty disappointing return and rarely ever play it, but Kveilkur just a year later was another beast entirely and is one of my favourites. who'd have known Sigur Ros could do big catchy choruses and be so heavy? would like to see them continue in a similar direction

Agreed however Varúð is probably my favourite song by them
