Sigur Ros

Again I'll say it. It's likely, incredibly likely that they'll play in the dark....but there is a chance that they won't.

Bestival: Didn't play in the dark, granted there were specific circumstances surrounding that (and if anything it makes them playing in the light again even less likely) but it still happened. Never say never!

Bestival is the whole crux of it. Basically they had reassurances when they were booked that it would be dark (they subbed the main stage). But then they ended up playing in the light. I'm guess that what happened was that when Rob De Bank made this deal, he didn't realise he was going to book Stevie Wonder (with an extended set time) to go on after them, so that's where the discrepancy lay. Apparently they complained about how sh1t it was after. I was there - I thought they were pretty good. I actually enjoyed it more than End of the Road (in the dark). The end.

That was the first time I saw them and I loved it (more so than when I saw them at Brixton the year afterwards) and I remember the message they posted afterwards about not being happy with the set.

Anyways once again I reiterate that I too believe they will play in the dark...we just can't be 100% certain.

I like Richard - he was good live earlier in the year too - but he did give it a load of (unwarranted) shit a few years ago as you say, especially given the festivals he'd played in and around that time frame. Weird that he's gone back on that.

As for Sigur Ros... fantastic booking, but are we overlooking Park? They seem far too big for it, but PJ Harvey seemed too big for the slot she's taken...

Maybe. I personally cant see past West Holts. The "Gawp at" comment they made seems to fit with sigur ros more than most. Its the 3rd biggesr stage at the festival. As theyre being robbed of the other stage, west holts seems the next logical choice. I for one think it could be sensational at west holts tho i know many feel otherwise.

I agree. They may not be your traditional WH act but as far as stages go, it's the one they'd do best on. The Park just seems too small, and JP too shite, and they're just as far removed from the type of act that usually tops JP as they are WH

The thing is, it's debatable that LCD Soundystem are a significantly bigger deal than Sigur Ros.

Or, at least before LCD and the lads went on sabbatical. There's little doubting that their 'legend' has propagated a bit in the interim and the subsequent reunion shows have galvanised the hype machine a bit - but that excepted I wouldn't say there was that much in it. I don't recall their 2010 show being especially stowed, and if they'd just cracked on in the usual album / tour / album cycle I dunno if they'd be significantly bigger than West Holts headliners.

And to my mind there's little doubt which band belongs on which stage.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder etc ain't it. Breaking up and reforming is sometimes the best thing a band can do - have seen many an act do it and play much higher than they were before they split. Sigur Ros playing lower than Other headliner still puzzles me as they'd definitely nail that slot and have just as big of a crowd as say... Portishead did, imo. So curious to see where they end up

The JazzWorld is 3rd biggest in terms of perception and arguably bookings - But purely in terms of number of people who can safely fit in the field without it being an issue they're pretty similar, with The Park maybe being a shade larger and also having a couple added benefits - a large crowd wouldn't block 2 major thoroughfares in the centre of the site, and access routes can be controlled more easily if needed without any knock on effects.

I'm preparing myself for an LCD/SigurRos clash unfortunately. I only have 3 must-see bands for the whole festival and these are 2 of the 3. I have a feeling that Sigur Ros will only play the Friday (makes most sense as they're playing Bristol on the Thursday, Ireland on the Sunday) and that going with Neil's prediction that LCD are going to the Friday Other headliners? I'm assuming they're going to clash. As horrible as it is.

Really hoping James Blake, Sigur Ros and Earth Wind & Fire aren’t all headlining West Holts, as ideally I don’t want to spend all three nights at the same stage for headliner time...

Its going to happen. Neils reconfirmed today that hes hearing LCD NO and BMTH are the other headliners which would make Disclosure the obvious pyramid sub for Ms Adkins.

I keep banging on about it in the hope emily sees one of my posts and goes "Christ alive guys, have you seen this? T-Mouse is in a right sorry state. Call disclosure and tell them theyre headlining the other on Friday then call James to tell him theyre now Headlining the other on Sunday. If Sykes complains, tell him at least they wont be playing to no one this way".
