James?

Michael Eavis, in this interview is asked if there's any band that he wouldn't book again. He replies that there's  a band from Manchester they won't invite back "who aren't famous anymore" and that they "fell out"

I thought it was The Fall, but they played a triumphant set last year. For me, it's got to be James...

Haven't they still got the arse with the Festival for some reason?

dont think so, because every year people on here say the band sends "come and get us!" type tweets to the festival.

I think neil gave a good rationale about their demands the other year. They demand a fee which is more than the slot glastonbury think they deserve (or something like that)

I still reckon that if that's the case it'd be their management rather than them.

really? I cant imagine a long established band like them would get bullied by their management.

They headline medium size festivals, so I suspect they think they should be other stage headliners at least. The festival disagrees and here we are.

Not sure about that mate to be fair. Have seen them play midway down at festivals over the last few years.

Surely it would be just shooting yourself in the foot by refusing none headline spots at major festivals, especially if you have new music to promote?

I agree, but we've been speculating about why they never play for years and this is the most plausible thing we have come up with!

We know they want to play the festival, from their tweets.

We know they arent banned, because tim booth has played since 1998. Maybe one of the other band members acted up so the festival dont want them to return? Seems unlikely though, especially as the farm have played recently, and they really did act up!

Or maybe the bookers just think they are a load of old shit. We will probably all die never knowing the truth!

Tim Booth will release a book at some point I reckon.

I would like to see James there but would not be too disappointed if it was not to be. Will catch them on their tour next year at some point.

as the interview dates from April 2014 could it be the happy mondays hes referring to? I know when they headlined it was reported they caused quite a few problems with their "antics"

Well by "act up" you mean "refuse to go on stage until half an hour after they were meant to".

They're one of my favourite bands, and I appreciate the circumstances (football match being show on screens, running into extra time) would have made it a very hard gig to play. They might even have made the right choice in not going on. But crucially, that wasn't their choice to make - if the stage manager tells you to go on, you go on. That's the job. You have to do the job you've been paid for. Like I say, one of my favourite bands, seen them live nearly 30 times. But I also put on shows, and if someone pulls something like that, then I wouldn't ever book them again.

Saul once told me they wanted to play but he thought that Eavis didn't really like them much. Not that Eavis has much do with the bookings these days. And this was over seven years ago.

They were late afternoon at Latitude last time they played weren't they? Think their headline slots last year were both 'fourth headliner' type things so I guess they do go for that billing.

Latitude 2010 was another clusterfuck. From what I gathered at the time, they'd been promised the special guest slot (in addition to their regular spot) on Sunday morning, which they were going to do a set with an orchestra and choir. Last minute the festival changed their mind and stuck Tom Jones on again in the Sunday morning slot (he'd already done one 'secret' set the Thursday evening). There was a certain anger to their actual set and they overran for 15 minutes too.

Without checking the video - does he say Band or Act? I'd imagine Morrissey could well be on that list now.

The Farm ? As in Groovy Train and Alltogether Now?

Don't think they've ever played Glastonbury.

Been to see James tonight at their album launch. After seeing them god knows how many times down the years I said this year that I was not going to bother. Seen a ticket for sale on Twickets via Twitter and could not resist. Went on my own and so glad I did.

What an utterly brilliant band they are. They did not play one of their big hits and still had the crowd lapping it up.

Seems they have collected a new member so would be even more expensive. It is such a shame they do not get the opportunity to play Glastonbury (reasons unknown) as there are not that many bands of any genre with as many good songs as James have.

Such a superb band. What ever rumoured issue there is between the festival and James needs to be resolved as it is the people that atend the festival that are missing out. They would be absolutely perfect for a mid afternoon sing along on the Pyramid.

Would love to see them but have no shame in admitting it would only be for Laid, sit down, getting away with it and a couple of others.. Avoiding the hits would cause me great sadness

With you on this. I've only really got into them in the past year or so, so I'm not an expert, and they're definitely a sing-along band. Some bands you want to go to so that you can hear new stuff, but for James it would have to be the hits imo, the crowd would be sensational I'd imagine too.

The annual "james must play this year" thread is reborn

They are not going to play unfortunately mate. Shame really. Not sure we will ever get to the bottom of why not either.

After Delamere Forest last year, I had, had enough of them. Fair to say last night has wet my juices again.
