I'm sure it will be out before Roundhouse. I'm still baffled at how anyone managed to get tickets! 

I like a happy medium, I like to hear a new song before an album because often, bands will change the song before it gets to the album. Radiohead do that, a lot! 

The more I listen to it the more I like it. I have read the lyrics whilst listening. 

New album Friday - isn't that when all the new music is out now?

Great comeback. Isn't amazingly innovative but still sounds like nothing they've ever put out. Lots of little details in the string section which would get missed on first few listens and like all Radiohead sounds much better on earphones. Can't wait for the tour now! Seeing them a few times...

also the first half of the second verse (Red crosses on wooden doors...) where it goes all lovely and orchestral is definitely my favourite part. really hope the rest of the album is similar in sound

Yeah that's exactly what I thought. It's not their weird boundary-pushing stuff that they've the tendency to do but it still doesn't sound similar to any Radiohead of old, and there's a bunch of new sounds in there as well. Love how it gradually builds and would make a brilliant set opener.

I really like the drums in the second verse. 

It's a really good song, but what excites me most about it is the promise of what else is to come. Seems like a great taster for the rest of the album.

It's quite good. Like the instrumental side of it. And the vocals are OK. Apart from the bits that go Burn the Witch. Awful whining. Felt like it was going to go somewhere at the end and then stops.

I just wish he would stop being so whiney and just do a proper catchy chorus!

Oh absolutely. I'm not particularly a Radiohead fan. Much prefer their stuff from the 90s. I just feel they have it in them to be as good as they were then. Now I feel they're just a bit pretentious for the sake of it. They could make some really inventive stuff that still has that sing along appeal, but they don't.

But that's just my opinion and I'm clearly in the minority on this forum  Clearly lots of people are loving this!

Got a text from my Dad saying it was out but I wasn't able to listen to it at work . Just got out and put it on straight away... it's superb. Really sent my excitement for the album into overdrive.

Loving all the clues and theories that were going round today, I'm just reading up on everything now. Good to see that the hype surrounding Radiohead remains as strong as ever

For me, the "being pretentious" is "being inventive" and there is a tension between singalong choruses and innovation.  Most of the singalong melodies are singalong because they are essentially familiar. So pushing things forward and having melodies people can sing along to is very difficult.

What did you think of In Rainbows?

Not that I've listened to it for a long time, and am really enough of a fan to rank the albums into a list, but I remember quite liking In Rainbows. It didn't feel too dull. Maybe i'll give it a re-listen so I can come back to you with a full opinion  

I have to disagree that the innovation/sing-along are mutually exclusive. But I guess it depends what you're looking for. I can appreciate the good music, but Thom Yorke just drawling over it ruins it for me. There's a talent in producing innovative, exciting music and combining it with the instrument of the voice to create something enjoyable. For me, the music may have got better, but the actual songwriting has got lazier.

I agree that they're not mutually exclusive, but there is a tension. Doing both at the same time is possible, it's just really difficult.

That's why The Beatles were so amazing IMHO, since they often did both.

That's why The Beatles were so amazing IMHO, since they often did both.

I find Idioteque to be catchy and a bit of a sing along. That's Radiohead at their very best when they mix innovation with catchiness.
