I so desperately want this news to be true that I'm not going to allow myself to believe it until the words come out of Emily Eavis' mouth.

It's going to be a long 2 months until that first lineup poster comes out.

Part of me struggles to believe the radiohead rumour, other half is like why not, its glastonbury, anything can happen.

I hope it is a gigantic pyramid stage set though and not a secret set that people are talking about

They only played as full band once since headlining 2003. That was on park stage in 2011. I think it was really just an opportunity to try out king of limbs live.

The place was rammed and to the point it was too rammed. Could hardly hear them from where i was and that wasn't too far back. No way they are playing the park imho

creep was just an example as thats a well known track they refused to play for a while even when it was popular in their set.

Yeah but apart from Creep they haven't really refused to play any. A couple of favourites they don't play much eg Let Down (apparently they don't like the way it sounds live) but apart from that they usually play career spanning sets and change the setlist every night!

granted they don't (or at least didn't on their 2012 tour) play the likes of Karma Police, No Surprises, Fake Plastic Trees, Just and other older singles, but those songs were all fifteen years (going on twenty now) old and they've released numerous albums since and sound like a totally different band. be interesting to see how their setlists change this time round and how the new album sounds - i imagine/hope it won't be quite as 'weird' as TKOL. something more in line with In Rainbows would go down a storm atop the Pyramid

Creep is the only "hit" i've heard they don't really want to play live. But they relented from that stance as well. They usually play a very crowd friendly set. And they understand the ethos of the festival. If they headline they will play many favorites

I thought they don't like to play High and Dry. Each member of Radiohead has said they hate it at various times. Thom Yorke called it a 'Rod Steward song'.

I bet they regret that though, cos the flaming lips blew them away!

Wasn't that the year there was glorious sun, LOVE with Arthur Lee on the other stage, followed by Flaming Lips and Radiohead on the Pyramid? - happy days!

The vast majority of Radiohead fans could name 25 songs they'd rather hear live before Creep. It's still a good song, but doesn't really showcase what makes them such a great band. Plus most stuff off Bends/OKC is better.

I remember in 2003 there was an annoying woman in the crowd who was shouting through the entire set "Play Creep"- I think you can hear her on the coverage. Still, slightly less annoying than the person who kept shouting a song to Arthur Lee throughout his setdespite the fact he was clearly playing the entirety of Forever Changes in order!

Got to be night time headliner on Pyramid surely?

My prediction: Adele plays first and ends her set with Chasing Pavements, laying down as Thom and co walk on and start Just.*

* May not happen

I appreciate how massive a coup booking Adele would be but I just can't see her headlining. What I can see is her subbing the completely contrasting Saturday headliner and I would be happy with that. I might even watch. Adele on before Foos or Radiohead makes perfect sense.

Alright fantasy set list time!

Ive had a look in setlist.fm and they usually play a full 23-24 song set for a lot of festivals.

They also usually do 2 encores of 5 and 3 songs.

Assuming 7 maybe would be new songs, come up with a setlist of 17 - 11 main set songs, 4 in first encore and 2 in final encore. Assume opening song might be a new one but after that they'd be scattered through set.

This is what I came up with:

Airbag

National Anthem

Planet Telex

Lotus Flower

Arpeggi

Nude

Pyramid Song

How to Disappear Completely

Separator

Idioteque

Paranoid Android

15 Step

Reckoner

There There

Everything in its Right Place

Karma Police

Street Spirit

Where is Fake Plastic Trees? I like that list, but it has to be in. It's the song that made me become a fan. If they are playing, I want that in.

you're giving that saturday short shrift with just that. it was an amazing day, from Ben Andrews opening up the pyramid pulled from obscurity, Jools Holland and Jimmy Cliff back-to-back on Pyramid, Interpol into Libertines on the Other (that's when it was truly hot/sunny, i can feel that now thinking of it), and then the Flaming Lips into Radiohead finale. i remember that place just packing up near front (this is pre-barrier)

one of the best individual days in my Glastonbury history, all following a great REM set the night before. along w/ 2009, the best Glastonbury for me (i've only done 7, so smallish sample)

Morning Mr Magpie - unconventional choice! Myxomatosis is beast live though.

tried to make it semi realistic (bar the addition of Let Down and a few others) and i just don't see them playing it anymore tbh as much as it pains me, although who knows what oldies they'll decide to bring back this tour

    • It does feel like there's a push back against net zero from both left and right, but especially the right. Probably since Trump I guess, but even before Trump you had the tea party and Sarah Palin thing, but over here the right were on board with the issue of climate change and the need to address it, from Thatcher through to Johnson. That has now changed, first it was the populist right, not it is mainstream, with Badenoch making the two prerequisites for standing for the Tories being against net zero, and for leaving the ECHR. You can be an ex neo-nazi as long as you are against net zero. At least many now seem to accept the climate change is happening and it is caused by us, but they now say well it will be a nice mediterranean climate so lets bin net zero anyway and just have fun f**k all that woke green sh*t. But also the left, with various trade union leaders and blue labour types going on about net zero being bad for the economy and the need for reindustrialisation as we head back to the glory days of the 50s when we all worked down pit or something, ignoring the amount of industries and jobs created by net zero. The greens obviously are still firmly behind the net zero thing, but the party is also full of nimbys who are worried about hedgerows and hedgehogs and votes, and even the leadership have realised that there isn't votes in climate doomerism but there definitely is in bashing billionaires and Israel. I guess the main driver of net zero policies in the country is still Miliband which is probably why everyone seems to be f**king terrified of him, the mad freak and his renewables. He is out of the energy department, but his replacement is hardly a petrolhead, and he isn't in the treasury doing terrifying things like spending money, but he is in the foreign office which is maybe a good place for him because climate change is a global issue and its going to take a global effort.
