Etiquette in Crowds

Sorry to start another 'what irritates you' thread, but I'm curious to know what people find annoying actually in the crowds. Do people walking through a crowd really get your goat, even the more apologetic? What should tall people do? I saw someone on another website have a good ol' rant about people singing along to the songs. What do you all think :)?

If you're tall don't rock up just as the band start and stand in front of the shortest person there. I spend ages getting myself into a decent position so I can see the stage for someone over 6 foot to just appear in front of me. I'm 5'3 gis a break!

Was a girl about your height standing in front of me at Blondie, she brought out one of those portable fold down  stool things.

I'm 6'1 ,and couldn't see over her  :)

me and my friends go near the camera box,and I have to go 2-3 times to the loo in one set when drinking, it's a right pain in the arse(bladder),everyone looks at me like shit on the way back as if I'm pushing in, but am always polite, tactic on the way out is hold my toilet paper in the air and Sing "coming through am off for a poo!" Hoping that they remember me on the journey back, doesn't help with Paruresis either

I've had it before where I'm stood with my mates, someone right up behind me,so can't go anywhere and a lass comes though and says can I just squeeze through,so I've sorted of tried to lean back off balance while she passes and then she just stays in my spot with me nearly falling over, can't av a conversation with my pal to the left now as I'm behind him,had to bite my tongue

People on here often voice their annoyance at the use of nos, it's not something I have a colossal problem with per se (though nor can I say I'm upset they've banned them this year) but noisily filling a balloon RIGHT NEXT TO ME in a thriving busy crowd halfway through a set really is taking the mickey.

Mate, there is no such thing as 'pushing in' when in a crowd in front of a stage.  Just go for it, if people get annoyed it really is their problem.

Edit:  politely of course!

I have this exact same problem! I could drink less so I don't need to piss every 5 mins but I know that ain't going to happen.

Be polite and friendly when moving through the crowd, let people through and don't be a dick and all is good in my experience.

Couldn't agree more!

Also, last year I put my pint up for the sing along with Elbow for someone to push it from my hand - at least he got a laugh from his mates.

It's a gig - people move for all sorts of reasons - the more you let them move the better.

Yes, about 1 in 10 people moving through are daft about it, but don't let it bug. Most are nice about it.

Tall people - I've got 3 mates over 6'3" and they feel really self-concious and don't know where to stand without being in the way. But I do feel really sorry for the 5'3" and below who get to see nothing, there's got to be a solution to that.

Thankfully Glastonbury doesn't have piss throwing.

After years of gig going, and still only 5'3", you get used to not being able to see. Other people can't help being tall, and it just makes the rare occasion when you can see properly all the more sweet. Cant stand bargers in a crowd though.

Rule number one:

Never ever talk loudly during a folk band as folk fans get very hissy about this. I've been to a few folk festivals and when people talk they can get a rather stern talking to by the hardcore folk lot.

Serves them right for watching mumford and sons.

I've learned just to take a very relaxed approach on crowd behaviour. Yes it's annoying that people push their way through, urinate right behind you, block views and film on their phone. All of that's going to happen like it or not, so better just to accept it for what it is and focus on why you're there. It's never so crowded you can't shift position a bit to move away from those people.

The only time I'd really draw the line is if anyone around me chucks a bottle or anything. That's really not on at all and they'd be told in no uncertain terms. Also, anything that's deliberately done with malicious intent to spoil somebody else's time. I've never seen that happen at Glastonbury but I've seen it elsewhere and it's really scummy behaviour that should be challenged.

I'm 6ft 3 and Mrs Teamsofa is 4ft 11. I am very aware of where I stand. I will always be in front of someone. I try to let shorter people in front of me if they ask. It's not always possible and feels a little unfair when others tut and complain I'm blocking their view. I'm not being maliciously tall!

    • There’s a few in there which could go either way or I’m not bothered if I miss but think that’s now be pretty set.  Few rubbish clashes like Kasabian/Loyle plus Reytons/Pixies/CMAT but I’ll head with the lads to the most popular one.   (And yes no Byrne or Twigs, just can’t into either)
    • I saw somewhere they were advertising Lewis' day as him live on Glagow Green and only mentioned Amy Mcdonald and CMAT as support, 0 mention of the festival  I completely agree this will probably be the last one which is a shame because the first 2 seemed so promising and now its turned into middle of the road rubbish with acts you can see everywhere else  Anyone know if the BBC are covering it next week as it'll be fascinating to see how full (or empty) it is
    • Did anyone catch Viagra Boys last night? A rollicking good set, with a little more free jazz than I expected.   if you’re up early, Walabi is doing a super job in the Cupra Pulse. There till six.

    • They really dropped a bollock on their lineup this year. They went with Richard Ashcroft because he did well as Oasis support - But realistically, you're not getting 50k people in a field to hear the 4 or 5 songs they know at like £70+ a ticket. Can't get my head around the Kasabian booking, either. Finsbury Park was a bold move for them, and yes it sold out, but I think you're more likely to see people make the journey to London if they want to see them rather than Glasgow. A second similar capacity show was always going to be a big ask for them.
