The runners (in grand national style)....

Blur 2/6 (Fav) - Friends with Eavii, damon has jumped in at the last moment before. BST Still needs to sell. Everything points to them.

Paul McCartney 5/1 - Exclusive to Rock Wercher. Could the issue be: how much do Glasto pay Rock Wercher? I think he could need a huge fee, but has done it before. Has tickets to shift.

Kylie Minogue 7/1 - Still has tickets to sell for BST, but is more a sub act to me.

The Libertines 8/1 - Playing T in the park. I think they could be announced now really.

Madonna 10/1 - Still has tickets to shift, but would command a large fee. Tour starts later in the year.

The Strokes 12/1 - A sub act on paper, but... After Kanye episode they are a very very safe guitar act that would stop people moaning. Have tickets to sell. Unlikely, but fit the profile (unless Im missing something)

Taylor Swift 20/1 - BST has sold out, so no reason she could not be announced. Would be doing 3 gigs on the bounce and a lot of travelling.

Bowie 60/1 - I'd love it, but it isn't happening.

The 3rd headliner won't be announced until June, I was told. I was told this was because the act was "doing other shows".

Well that should help narrow the field. The only thing that can grey that area is

1. does that mean GF can't announce until they have played those shows (i.e the shows are in may, early June) or

2. GF can't announce until those shows have sold out or GF sells out

3. GF have struck an agreement with the band and other 'shows' not to announce until a certain date.

My hunch is the first one. The plural in 'shows' makes me think we're not in the 'breaking a festival exclusive' area but more that they have a series of gigs they want to sell and play. I'm still not sure on Blur.....would announcing them now affect the Hyde Park shows and IOW? Can't see people thinking, "i will goto glastonbury instead" though an announcement after IOW fits.

I'm going for a couple of outsiders:

The Fall. Their tour finishes on May 31st and they have a small festival on June 5th.

James - Announcement post IOW, Bearded Theory and their last tour date. Kendal Calling unaffected as that has sold out already

A third option....Elton John? Gigs up until June 20th.

It's not so much a case of people opting to try and go to Glastonbury instead. It's presumably more concerned with people who are already paid up to attend but may consider shelling out for one of the other events on top of that due largely to Blur's presence.

Not at all familiar with the fall but the fact that you've pointed out them playing a small festival would probably rule them out of headlining an event the size of Glastonbury. James are in no way large enough to headline any large-scale festival these days, surely. And Elton John is in Germany that night.

Surely it's Fleetwood Mac,

If people gave there tickets up because of Kanye West headlining it gives others the chance to get some in the resale, they did not have faith in Glastonbury to wait and see who the third act would be so therefore i can understand why they won't announce who the third headliner is yet, but with them holding back surely shows it's going to be someone amazing and Fleetwood Mac fit this perfectly.

The Strokes is actually a really, really good shout. I don't know why we haven't talked about them more, to be honest.

They have denied it, but Neil has said it has been a late booking. I may be half asleep, but they do seem to fit with what Neil has said (along with a few others) so I cant completely dismiss them.

Good points all round!

Macca might still be in with a shout. His UK tour finishes end of May.

Again, they categorically said they're not playing Glasto. Again though, could just have been said because it was true at the time. I'm personally getting into the mood that I'm just willing to wait until it's announced, and hope it's a good one! I haven't got a clue who it will be, but I've spent too many weeks obsessing, I'm exhausted!

I think it's more a case of folks with Glastonbury tickets who would otherwise have gone to Hyde Park now not bothering....I can see the sense in keeping it under wraps until Hyde Park sells a few more tickets....although if that is the case it's likely to p*ss off a few people.

The Strokes are an Other headliner at best. Couldn't see them pulling a big crowd at the Pyramid at all, due to only appealing to the hardcore indie/alt Reading goer sort of fan. Of which people exist at Glasto, but far from an abundance.

In my opinion a Pyramid headliner needs a fair amount of crossover appeal to be a credible headliner.

Ah, didn't realise they'd specifically ruled themselves out, thought they had just been announced as exclusive to BST and that was it. Still, Blur and FM have done the same too, and there are things which still seem problematic about either of those (Blur smashing it relatively recently, FM seemingly rejecting Glasto to go for the dollar) which don't apply to the Strokes. If people are willing to chuck Mick Fleetwood's as-categorical-as-you-can-possibly-get comments out the window surely we can do the same for them.

They wouldn't be ideal. But they also would be a late replacement. The last time that happened was Gorrilaz, who probably have less crossover appeal than the Strokes if anything.

I don't disagree with any of that at all. I only mention them as they are in the country, fit the profile and after the Kanye petition episode would be a very "anti kanye" style booking.

    • Blink 182 have been announced here at Rock im Park for next year this evening so you'd think Download will follow up from Green Day and get them. Be a mad miss if they don't.   In which case I'm going with Blink, Slipknot and the 3rd could be many options. If they get Foos for the 3rd it'll be the best trio I can remember for a long time. It would absolutely rip this years as a trio to shreds and I say that as a LP big fan.
