Do you have a fire by tour tent/camp?

It's a very rare event for our lot not to have at least one small fire during the festival. I recall in the old days there used to be loads of fires in the camping areas. I remember seeing the face of a friend of a friend when he saw the fires and smoke for the first time on the hill at Webbs Ash and all the way around. It was a great sight and made the place look like a refugee camp - which it kind of is for a brief moment in time away from the outside world.

The good old swedish candle fires, they kick ass for everything u need in a camp fire, Are you saying these will be available for sale in glasto Sawdusty Surfer?

I did see a massive one of these somewere by the naughty corner but it had been done by the staff i think as it was over 6 foot tall and had a wire cage around it.

I,d deffo be interested in at least a couple of these if they are for sale at the festival.

I think space is the key these days - you need to get the fire lit early on the weds to 'mark the ground' otherwise someone will dump a tent in the space.

I did see two bright sparks who had a great idea with their fire in the early 80's - it was going down so they dragged their own tent { with whatever was inside it } onto it and the fire sparked up for a while - they were well out of it - I walked out my tent as I had a feeling they were going to drag another tent onto it and I was going to make bloody certain it was not mine - they spotted me watching so decided to walk off to try and find wood but I never spotted them again.

Exactly this, there's simply not the space. You need to leave an area the size of two tents - one for the fire and another for people to sit around.

That'd be good then. We do try to make room for a small fire, as others have said it is a good way to wind down. A festival without a fire is just odd!!

Any idea where we'd get them from yet? We always end up buying firewood at least twice over the weekend.

We usually have one, there is always someone around from 11ish till 5-6 so we end up coming back to the fire after the headliners before the late night stuff then as people wander home there are usually someone to chat to. I love the camp fire it's a huge part of the fest for me and the thing I miss must on rainy years

I don't usually, as space/never sure how to start one in a safe way However camping with some of the #twisto lot last year I came back on the sunday to a few people sitting around a very small fire. It was wonderful and I get what people like about them so much now! Lovely just talking about the last few days and relaxing, sharing the last drops of drink! (Though I was looking to get to bed and get some sleep in before my coach back! )

Those look ace btw Sawdusty! (I think the reason we didn't have one until the sunday last year, was lack of finding fire/something to contain it in actually!)

Yes, we even took some fire logs last year to help it get started when we were tired and emotional.

There are no fires any more (well, fewer anyway), because of all the night time entertainment that's available. Who want's to stay in camp at night now! Back in the day (sigh, here we go again), there was no SE Corner and comparatively few bars and places open so there was much more campsite community.

There's always a load of free wood provided at Webbs Ash. I've still seen a load of it lying there untouched on Monday morning.

I've got it and would buy one, only I'm not going this year. I'd like to help out though (on the assumption that Neil has already given his tacit agreement via his post above) - these logs will be available for purchase from someone who shall remain nameless at this years festival. Just look for the place with the stunningly beautifully carved wooden furniture, wooden mushrooms etc etc and you will find them there. Go on, go there and fill yer boots with these sensibly priced fire logs.

Always had a fire in CVE with no hassle

used to always be the first thing we done, get tents up, empty contents of rucksacks into tents.. then hit the railway track and fill up with wood, do 2 or 3 runs to get enough for the weekend. we used to have a small spare tent just for the wood.

working it now means I have a marquee with a cheaper bar and drink (all be it piss) on draught.

miss the fires tho and the smoke over Glastonbury. added even more to the atmosphere.
