£80 is a nonsense unless they have a very strong line up for the rest of the day.

horses for courses, innit? ;)

I've just read a post of someone screaming that Common People is shit - tho at the price its charging, what is that person expecting?

It's £50+ nowadays to see just the likes of a band like Blur on their own, so to get much more than just the one band you're going to have to pay a chunk more.

£82 inc fees for a Hyde park gig is too much, especially when you are stuck paying silly money for overpriced food and drink all day and not being able to hear the bands due to the crap sound there!

Fair enough you get other bands, but its a gamble when buying tickets that you will actually like any of them. We got bloody Florence at their 2009 Hyde Park gig!

It's not just youngsters! There is no way I could justify paying £80 to see blur. £160 for the missus too. It's absurd.

I could just about justify it for a huge production like roger waters doing the wall at wembley stadium. But for 4 tits stood on stage? no chance.

War on drugs is costing £23 to see them at brixton tonight. That's about right.

Big productions or very rare acts (god forbid Tom Waits ever does some shows here, dread to think of the price!) About £20 for academy shows is right I'd say, though some do take the piss at double the price etc. with very minimal set-up.

I'm pretty sure it's a lot of people's justification for Glastonbury, that they wouldn't be able to afford to see such acts at their own gigs/tours. Festival still represents great value to me, particularly if you take the view that 3 Blur sized headliners alone would cost you the ticket price.

If not more. I think Foos were £80 at Wembley, if Blur are £80 at HP then all it takes is another act of the same calibre (unlikely but still) and seeing those three acts alone is more expensive than the whole festival.

Yeah its a travesty to be honest, I can understand paying £60 for a Royal Albert Hall gig as it was a charity show, but £80 is a nonsense unless they have a very strong line up for the rest of the day.

Without wanting to get all 'in my day' about it, I remember when I started going to gigs regularly which was about 10 years ago, you could see pretty much any sized act for £30 or less. I remember being a bit annoyed that tickets for Smashing Pumpkins at the o2 were £35, and most of my mates backed out of seeing Radiohead after finding out tickets were going to be £50. I understand that a lot of musicians make their money this way but it's a pretty dreadful business model if your target audience can't afford to attend shows. I guess this is what you get when people stop paying for music.

Last tour was about £20 on top of that, minimum. Atoms for Peace was in excess of £50 too!

Everything is getting ridiculously more expensive, especially in and around London, this can hardly come as a surprise to anybody

there's not much of an income stream from recording sales any more for most acts, so they need to make up the difference with 'live'.

We still don't know who is subbing them so could be a line up worth the money at least I hope it is. I do agree that these prices are getting a bit out of hand. I remember my first major festival cost around £90 for the weekend now prices are over £200 they will keep rising because people keep paying the prices.

Of course it is a surprise, the news media is telling us that inflation has been low for years and that wages are rising fast. I mean, we can all see the evidence of that right? :P

Yeah absolutely, I would probably pay close to that to go and see Radiohead if they play a big outdoor show again. The Common People thing seems a bit nuts to complain about, the tickets are absolutely dirt cheap, not entirely sure what people were expecting from it?

Always been a weird one to me, that. If an act charges a reasonable price for a gig and impresses me with their new material, I'll probably buy the album. But if an act charges a ridiculous amount, how can I justify shelling out on an album too?

Strangely, vinyl sales are through the roof too, so I'd have thought acts would take advantage of that. I guess the people who won't see an act live and won't get the record legally screw that idea up.

Yep. You could get flights and a hotel for a weekend away for that sort of cash.

No didn't see them in 09. Saw them a couple of years later. Good gig. I was pissed up and singing!

but would you get to have piss thrown all over you whilst hearing Song 2 for the billionth time!?

Or the British Gas theme?

etc etc

ooh lovely, where shall we go?

Berlin? Cheap flights, cheap when you're there and great history tours. Lovely beer. Cracking weather in the summer. Last time my flights were about £40 and the hotel was £45 for the two nights. Less than two hours to get there too.

Or we could go see a 90 minute gig at 73dB and listen to the same set they've been playing for 12 years?

    • True and given how rapidly it fell apart for Piastri in the final third of last season, we do have precedents for it going wrong.   Although Antonelli did a brilliant effort to eke out Monaco pole yesterday against Verstappen while Russell's down in 6th. I know Russell was unlucky in China and Japan but in the last few weeks, Antonelli is starting to look like he gets the demands of this new spec of car better.
    • I didn't watch all of the England friendly last night but I did see some of it. Still seems like they have a few gears to go through. But then I also felt that for the Uruguay and Japan friendlies a few months ago, so... hmmm...
