When I started college 2 n a bit years ago we had to go do all this ice breaker shit with our tutor group, and one activity was we had to stand in a circle and throw a ball to each other and answer questions, and my friend told everyone his favourite band was Radiohead and got some weird "you're a weirdo then" looks. I had to do it later in the day and said Radiohead, too (thought the fact less people would know their music than Muse's made them a safer bet), and someone asked me if I said radio.

Same week we sang Friday I'm In Love on karaoke in front of the whole 2,000 person college and cemented our status as the OG's of John Leggott College. I think only one person actually clapped at the end of it.

I remember when I had to do the ice breaking crap at my first day of college, I rolled up my sleeves as despite being 16 my arms were covered with tattoos and then started explaining the surreal plots from Haruki Murakami's books just to see what the reaction would be. These make friend tasks always piss me off.

Yeah it was a kinda weird thing to make us do at 16 years old. Sit in a circle and throw a ball to each other to introduce ourselves.

Jesus heck The Young Knives are shite. How did I listen to this stuff? I probably thought I was cool listening to The Young Knives, The Pigeon Detectives and The Enemy at the time, as well. So much wasted time.

Young Knieves are err...very incosistent. When they are good, they are brilliant but they do alot of filler shite! One of the few bands I quite like but have never managed to go and see live.

The Pigeon Detectives were awesome for a while, I still quite like their first two albums...but the other two are a bti shit.

I've thankfully never cared for the enemy, I saw them supporting the View (I know I know...) and they basically came on and swore for most of their set.

I give you a rating 2/3 for coolness there then :P

INRATS but...........

if Bombay Bicycle Club headline any of the main fests then I will never attend that festival again. Purely because that festival will have become so shit it won't be worth going to again. Bumfords are bad enough.

Put the electrodes on my napper now. Glastonbury doesn't appeal now but if that shower of tepid weakness ever headlined then it would have gone so far downhill that the brass band at the Sutton Sudbury WRVS coffee morning will get better crowds. They've already peaked and it was pathetic.

wow that's my favourite new meme

anyway NAW seriously why?? They aren't too poppy by any means and they sure as hell aren't too mainstream. They still have the iconic tracks and are instantly recognisable. I know it's a simplified argument but HEY SO IS EVERYONE ELSES probably

I can't think of when R/L has had an act that's in anyway comparable to them.

What criteria do they fall under to be incomparable?

a massive dance act.

I know the Chems played in the long distant past (tho only because their manager ended up on drums for The Fall), but other than that it's not what R/L tend to do - and the Chems don't class as 'pop' in anything like the same way as Faithless.

As I say, I can't think of any similar act who've done R/L. The nearest I can think of is New Order when they headlined in 1989.

    • That show after Roe v Wade was repealed in the John Peel tent is one of my top ever Glastonbury moments. She started out properly in the dumps and Glastonbury turned it around for her. Amazing atmosphere and show
    • Gonna wait for the inevitable festival run of 2027 too. At least the phone ban stops the filling of my feed with fomo-causing clips.
    • I have visions of Garden Stage being rammed for AdP to the same level as Fleet Foxes dimensions  (for those of you who weren't there it was the last no-Woods stage festival and the Garden Stage was "closed" rammed)
