Coldplay 2015

who cares about the general public? it's about a festival crowd.

sigur ros sold out wembley arena and I think everyone will know hoppipolla.

Whilst this is true, it's one of my least favourite SR songs, and I'm a long-term fan. Sadly, Hoppi's widespread recognition and popularity (I'm looking at you, Attenborough!) has made it an almost ever-present to the live set since the release of Takk...

Still, SR at Glastonbury 2015 - OMG yes, please. And Bjork. Except we're pretty convinced her 26-piece orcehstra plans make this unlikely. Poo.

i know it's cool to knock Coldplay, but i bet there are quite a few closeted fans on here who just feel the need to ridicule them. I'm not a fan and wouldn't pay to see them...but...in 2002 i thought A Rush of Blood to the Head was a marvelous album, Politik is a great opener (especially live) and I even like Clocks, but Daylight through to Amsterdam is quite a finish to an album if you give it a listen. Even today...I didn't get the fuss with 'Parachutes' when it came out (people were calling them 'new Radiohead' which was ridiculous) apart from the final track of the album, and I detested "Yellow" but that second album really had me for a year.

Their Friday spot on the Pyramid in 2002 on the eve of the album release was quite good. Sometimes it's good to catch a band when they're really fighting for it, trying to make it big and I thought they took that initial headline spot quite well. The music since then has taken a turn for the worse and has been very pedestrian, attempting to hold onto the most generic (and even younger) audience that only purchases one or two records a year, and they've become less relevant and more annoying to snooty music critics such as myself, as has his prancing about on stage so confidently and smug...but for a year or so with that second album I thought they might have something in them, depending where they went with album #3. But then that came out, and the first single with a keyboard riff attempting to copy "Clocks" tipped off that they were not going to heading anywhere creative and they lost me.

Now...C Martin obviously views Glastonbury as a special place, so hats off to him for that. It seems like he goes just about every year, lobbied Eavis in lobbying the Boss to make an appearance in '09, so I really don't harbour much dislike for him, i'm just a bit indifferent... as for the band itself, I just thought it'd be nice for them to do one of those special guest surprise spots rather than be the first band to ever headline 4 times.

Eminently sensible. As for the last bit, off the back of 2011 I went to see them on their tour in 2012. My sister bought the program and in that every band member, when asked about 'best gig' or 'best place to play' said Glastonbury. No reason for them to do that

Irrespective of size/popularity its the most mundane headliner in the festivals history.

Living in Glasgow I often find myself debating the relative merits of Glastonbury and TITP. I can no longer mock the T goers for that festivals regular repeat bookings

Yep. It's Alt-j, Bjork and Iggy pop (in some order)

(I just want iggy pop to be confirmed, if I say it enough, it will happen)

Yep it's Alt-J, The Strokes and Bjork

If I say The Strokes enough they'll take note

We've been spoiled rotten over the past dozen or so years.

Yep, this is what it comes down to. If you think about who we've had the opportunity to see in all those years it's flipping incredible. 2000 onwards has been insane. It will never be surpassed.

You wait til the the Coldplay reunion gig of 2020 (it will have been 5 years, the reunion will be INSANE)

What Glasto should tell Coldplay is

"look lads, I know we're friends and all that and you played the festival a few times with varying levels of success, but we need a break from it all.

I think the plan is that you could play at the 2049 festival if you want to but until then you can't. Is that agreed?"

True. If someone had told you back in 1999 that Glastonbury would get Bowie, Macca, The Who, Springsteen, Neil Young, Stevie, U2, The Stones and Metallica you'd have pissed your pants laughing

    • The Radio Dept.?! That's a surprise to me, they haven't toured in like 8 years. Hopefully they will announce some more shows.
    • I was assuming September in Stirling might have a different issue tbf in the form of it just pissing it down.
    • Yeah so many of mine seem to be just France v Spain in one semi and England/Brazil v Argentina in the other. But the fact those combos are the obvious ones mean it feels unlikely that'll happen because in World Cup history, you very rarely end up with what pre-tournament looks like the obvious final 4. We all see teams outperform and underperform. Which one is the fall guy is a different matter.   I've said elsewhere that for me, there's a hierarchy of Spain, France and Argentina as the 3 strongest looking, then England and Portugal, then Brazil and Germany, but that overall, they'd be the 7 likeliest to win. So I dunno, maybe this will be the time the Netherlands avenge the failure of total football in 1974 and achieve what they couldn't achieve through whatever the f**k Nigel de Jong was with his 2010 final karate moves.
    • Oh I think Infantino should resign. His handling of the whole WC process has been an utter shitshow. But you know. That would require him having integrity or something.
    • Good Charlotte would be fine third down or subbing. If they can get a bigger sub and still get GC, they’ll play third down.
