Shangri La 2014

It is always interesting to see how the "story" evolves, was wondering what other peoples opinions are of the changes this year, I was skeptical with the news that the alleyways had been demolished as I rather enjoyed wandering around them. What will next year have in store for us?!

Having had 2013 off I was a little dissapointed by the 'narrative'. There were some clever bits to it (Enjoyed seeing people being confused by the Department of Finance), and ultimately I had two good nights at Shangri Hell

I thought this years' was excellent, absolutely superb. In fact the best since 2010. The [lace is amazing, loads of little details, so much creativity, imagination and playfulness.

In fact, me and my best mate were talking about it, it absolutely is a playground, and as adults, we often forget how to play. Shangri-La is best if you apprach it as a game and become a particpant, then it really comes alive, join in with what people are doing, respond to what you see and hear, don't just charge around waiting to be entertained. I fucking loved it this year.

Thought it was great this year, I too miss the alleyways (best night ever in there in the pouring rain and mud after U2 on Friday 2011) but the hexagonal nano-venues were not a bad substitute, not bad at all. Enjoyed the 2 big stages and the ease of moving between them - thank God they got rid of the queuing for Heaven. I miss Club Dada, but you can't have everything. Just wish there was more time to spend there, it seems like far too much creativity and work to only exist for 4 nights!

I did miss the Alley Ways a lot but loved the different departments in hell. (the HR department was a lot of fun, raving with the folders).

Does anyone else think they'll drop Heaven and Hell after this year? I think two years of it is a bit much, I think they may even have to start a new story from scratch, I'm not sure what else they can do with the current story really, I think it's been dragged out way too much as it is.

I liked it, although missed the alleyways. Unfortunately, I did it a bit rushed (Sunday night, at about 4AM) so didn't get to look properly, so missed out on the Hell stage (got a brief look, but nothing much more) and missed out on the departments (were they the same as last year, where they were just bars?)

The art was really good, amazed me how no one seemed to be paying attention to any of it, it was like Glastonbury's own art gallery. The Shepherd Fairey and Banksy was as expected, but what really stood out was Dan Hillier's stuff. Amazing, I've been looking at the prints, if I can't get my hands on an original (whether I'd be able to afford one is another matter! A goal for the future though!), I think I'll definitely be picking a print up.

EDIT: Looking again, not sure if an original is possible, looks like most may be done as half an image and then mirrored (although with the colour one, the flowers on top of the skull are different) - could always do something complicated like buy a half original and include a mirror as part of it though.

I think I did SL wrong... I went every time on my own, so I struggled a bit to do anything other than just wander round and look at things. I think that if I was with a mate, I'd have enjoyed it a lot more, because I'd have had someone to enjoy it with.

Did anyone see Jesus in Heaven? We were in there around 0200 on Friday night and this guy/angel came over and told us Jesus was coming soon...and that he was 3 foot tall. We were like wtf? but stayed and sure enough at around 0230 there was a big announcement and 'Jesus' walks out. He was about 3ft tall wearing brown robes and appeared to be of middle Eastern origin....then when he spoke he had a broad Aussie accent.

He then proceeded to dispense various pieces of wisdom and generally abuse the crowd who were all laughing at him....every other word was 'f' this and 'f' that...

Very odd.
