jesus the wait until the June headliner announcement is gonna be intense - even though it's not gonna be him, i still won't be able to shake the 'it could be Prince' feeling away until i see Blur / Macca / whoever at the top of the poster. who'd have thought we'd be speculating all the way until June? (unless Neil gets more solid info nearer the time)

Has Madge been 100% ruled out now BTW?

She out and about this year and maybe she does not want her Glasto appearance dropped before she sells out her UK tour dates?

not ruled out, but no real reason to rule her in either. could well be her, and it'd be in line with the headliner being held back somewhat... but more likely to be somebody else i'd have thought

How long ago did Liam Howlett say that The Prodigy weren't playing? Long enough time for a previously contracted headliner to pull out and for them to agree a deal with GFL? Sunday is still the only day they can play. They are also headlining IoW like Fleetwood Mac. Just a thought but maybe there is an agreement in place that they give IoW a chance to sell out (or at least maximises the opportunity to) before they make an announcement?

Probably not though. Wants Prodigy, Prince or Bowie, expects Fleetwood Mac, Blur or Florence

A couple of weeks ago at most. I think they'd just have bumped up Florence rather than going for The Prodigy though.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right. Must be someone being regularly mentioned. Maybe Emily's quote that it was someone that hadn't previously been rumoured is also out of the window now? I assume that the act that she was referring to is the one that pulled out (if one has, as suggested)?

I've always thought of the Sunday headliner as the one where all of our group get together and see out the festival at the same place. One big singalong. In recent years it's been Blur, The Verve, Kasabian, Stevie Wonder, McCartney, etc. We all go in different directions over the course of the five days but it's tradition to assemble in the same place (usually the Pyramid) on a Sunday evening, light a couple candles and enjoy each other's company before we return to our homes across the country and real life the next day. Can't see that happening if Florence plays, which would be a shame. I guess it could still work with Fleetwood Mac

Lets be honest here the only strong information that's out there in relation to this 3rd headliner is regarding those who are playing a gig already somewhere else that night or who have come out personally and said publicly that they are not playing Glasto this year. I dont think even Neil believes anything he has at the moment is in anyway good strong indicative information.............

So it could be pretty much anyone who is big enough and available.

So the code to crack is why the "delay" in the announcement and can that say anything of who is playing (or who the festival are hoping to get to play)

I tend to think it may be a case that they dont have the act 100% tied down yet and hence the lack of info. If it was simply case of the act being booked already but they dont want it to be announced yet Id say it would have leaked and got out by now.............

I would be very happy with Blur, and it's ridiculous talk about tarnishing 2009. New album, bring it on!

I don't necessarily think it would tarnish 2009, you'd just get everyone making the inevitable comparisons. I kind of feel the same way about Bowie but I suppose there's been a 15 year gap between appearances and hardly any live shows or albums in between. I'd probably avoid Blur, but only for the reason that I wouldn't want to keep making comparisons myself. 2009 was special and I'd like to keep it that way

    • Ive always had a lot of time for the mighty Shots, a pal of mine used to commentate on their games for Sussex Counties radio and he'd sneak me into the ground for midweek games, and we'd even nick a tea and a plate of sandwiches. This is back in the George Borg days, so um . . a little while ago now
    • Hmm, weird- Rush are playing the Co-Op live on the 12th and the 14th, and Megadeth are the meat in that sandwich - so they have to roll everything in, roll it out again, only to roll it back in and then out - here's hoping for a prog hokey-cokey with all manner of bizarre time signatures and drum solos!
    • Depends what you mean by seeing 'more stuff' about it.    I definitely don't trust the original Sun article.

    • Chill. There is no chance Sziget will be cancelled by the government. Even the prime minister held a press conference today, where he confirmed this.   Magyar said they do not want to shut down the country or prevent events from taking place. He gave the example that vetoing an event would be like completely cutting off a large consumer’s electricity supply for the organizers. However, just as they have not taken such a measure against large consumers, they have not taken steps to cancel events either. (Magyar did not name a specific event, but he was presumably referring specifically to the Sziget Festival.) At the same time, Péter Magyar stressed that if disruptions occur in the system or the heatwave persists, it could become necessary to postpone or reschedule events (example: some Hungarian football games will probably be held in daylight, moved to a few hours earlier, to save energy), although he believes there is currently little chance of that happening. This is particularly true for events that rely entirely, or largely, on their own energy sources.
