We have coach package tickets, they say they will email an eticket to the lead booker's email address, we print it out and bring it and then get the ticket on the bus.

So just put your name as lead booker and if they do it the same for the resale you'll get the eticket emailed to you.

Can anyone explain why a 3G connection might be more successful than wifi? Just mentioned it to my husband and he just rolled his eyes and told me I was talking rubbish.

Yes and No......the firewall, load balancer and server will all treat network traffic in different ways and coming from two different IP addresses will potentially increase your chances by your network packets being treated in different ways. It's true we don't know exactly how they have it configured but there are three points where coming from different IPs can help. If we knew the hardware and config files for the kit they run we could really maximise our chances but for now we have to take educated guesses....

If you have a spare person in the house have them phone the number and keep pressing redial. I got through in 2011 and it literally sold out minutes after putting the phone down. It pays dividends trust me.

It also doesn't hurt to do anti malware/virus checks the night before. I also clear all my temporary internet files, cookies ect and defrag the hard drive the night before. Maybe some tekkie will tell me this is a waste of time but if your device is clutter free and running more smoothly it might just give you a slightly better chance

No sorry just stuff I pick up from work. Not my area of expertise but I work closely with people who specialise in this stuff, so if I knew the hardware and config I could use their knowledge to maximum effect :-)

My rough thinking without getting over technical is...

The firewall will have something to restrict multiple attempts from the same IP to help prevent denial of service attacks. It could also restrict automated refreshers with the same technology so they are a risk as well as a help.

The load balancer will probably send traffic from the same IP to the same server so using more IPs hits more servers and some might perform better than others.

Servers can also do stuff but it's more likely it's done before.

That makes sense.

I'm a (asp.net) developer, so my expertise is on the server, where session is far more important than IP address. Different browsers rather than different tabs is definitely my advice. That's not to say that the phone isn't a good idea.

Although the network stack isn't my area of expertise, I'm deeply sceptical of the idea that multiple browsers is actually going to *reduce* your chances by increasing the requests per IP, especially if you give each request chance to timeout before hammering on reload. If you do that then it's nowhere near DOS level of request rate.

So, advice is multiple browsers + phone. Refresh when timed out. Also use landline.

So you agree?

All I know is I wasn't getting a sausage last year with a load of people in my house trying to connect. As soon as I switched to a VPN or tethered 3G connection, I got on. If having many people trying doesn't reduce their chances, then how come people doing that report such shitty results? ;)

I'll be ponying up for a paid tethered connection this week. No fucking ticket, no fucking compromise!
