Misremembered Facts

Something trivial... I've got half a fact in my head that I don't quite remember fully. Something about Glastonbury festival being equivalent to the biggest city in Somerset, or south West or something? maybe second biggest? I don't know. I was reeling off this fact to a first-timer the other day and half way through the sentence I realised I was talking poo-poo. Anyone know?

feel free to post other such questions...

I remember getting home and watching recorded highlights from BBC and Lauren Laverne stating that there were more people at Glastonbury that in Sunderland.

Or maybe i misremebered that.

I might ask her on Twitter...

I still have my doubts about the numbers { total numbers counting everyone }
if anyone can recall when Radio Avalon started { I think it was 1983 }
one year { in the 80's } they cracked me up - it went something like this
' We are asking everyone to stay in their tents for the next 1/2 hour as we have heard that the Council have hired a plane and they intend to count the heads '
I was a ticket holder at the time time so not sure if it was a wind up or not but looking out of my tent there was a lot less people walking about.
can anyone recall such a broadcast ?

There used to be a wonderful tongue in cheek thread with 'fascinating facts' about Glastonbury. Maybe Neil could help find it.

Meanwhile, if you laid all the people doing 'event management' and other surveys on here end-to-end you still wouldn't reach a conclusion.

I've got plenty of misremembered Glastonbury facts

Did you know that the first festival at Worthy Farm was called the Shepton Mallet Fayre, tickets cost 35 pence (which included free cheddar cheese) and it was held the week after Emile Barnes died? Apparently around 150 people attended, and it was headlined by Slade, who stepped in after David Bowie who failed to show up.
