Another vote for Battery to open. I've seen em twice, never played it. They opened with Creeping Death and Blackened the times I did. Really hoping for Rod y Gab (more likely) or Robert Plant (much, much less likely IMO) to join em onstage!!

Also, I've seen a number of posts suggesting "One" is a ballad. That is utter nonsense. Don't be fooled by the intro. That's the heaviest song they still play on a regular basis. Definitely NOT a ballad.

Id love metallica to come out and do a real `heavy` set just to shake things up and stick a middle finger up at those who almost expect them to `adapt` because its glastonbury. play a lot of the first 3 albums, good bit of whiplash, hit the lights, battery etc etc it may result in a smaller crowd but why play up to fairweather fans? those who stay will get a lot better set :) and a `true` idea of what metallica is not some watered down espcially for glasto version.

Hehe yeh. Metallica are SO METAL.

yeah i've listened to it since i made that comment and i totally forgot how incredibly heavy it gets towards the end.

i often forego …And Justice For All due to it's bizarre production and forget how great of an album it is. i'm actually really excited that they're gonna finally play The Frayed Ends Of Sanity in Helsinki

Metal Militia on the Pyramid would be a killer!! and more Kill 'Em All

there'll be plenty of heavy stuff - we're definitely getting Seek & Destroy, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Creeping Death, Battery, Master Of Puppets, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), probably Ride The Lightning. good slab of thrash there!

been listening to the Black Album quite a bit the last few days and it's made me realise i really can't wait for Sad But True. that big pause in the song is just magnificent, and despite it not being thrashy the song is heavy as fuck

Some people say that the gaps left in songs are just as important as the times when the instruments are playing!! I think lots of the setlist with be Black Album

i don't think much more of the setlist will be Black Album. Enter Sandman, Sad But True and Nothing Else Matters are givens, and then there's the possibility of The Unforgiven and Wherever I May Roam, but i'd put money on it not being any more than that (but would be absolutely fine with those five songs as they're all great, just as long as it didn't mean the omission of something from the first four albums)

Off the top of my head I can't think of many female headliners

Katy Perry, Gaga, Florence, Adele, Rihanna, Beyonce, (wouldn't say Kylie anymore), Madonna.

The thing is, all credible female headliners belong to pop - and that's unfortunately the problem with the music industry, much more money if you homogenise the females to poppy sounds.

I'd say the only female headliners (if we will) in the future out of those may be Adele, Florence and Gaga if she has a second wave. Can't see them going for Rihanna at all!

or though it was guilty of the worst ever cover of a Metallica song ive ever heard! it was at their mtv icon show, never seen a performance that smacks more of `tv network insisting he appear` even Metallica looked embarrassed for him

Kirk's face is just priceless.

Talking of metallica covers.

Has anyone had a listen to Driving mrs Satan cover of battery??

They have taken one of metallicas must brutal songs and totally flipped it on its head.

I kinda dig it

…except it's not an intro! It's over half the song…by that token it could be a ballad with a trash metal outro :P Creeping death has been in their setlist forever, I'd venture that's heavier than One. Would you call The Day That Never Comes a ballad?, I certainly would (as Metallica songs go), but it gets heavy enough towards the end...Anyway, my assessment of One as a "ballad" stems from when I was into Metallica (long time ago now!), we would have always classed it as such…sure it's the same notes as Fade to Black!…Anyway, it doesn't really matter, it's going to be a hell of a night on Saturday with Plant, White and Metallica...

I think lars needs to get rid of that awful hair do he is starting to look like the creepy child catcher in chitty chitty bang bang.

He is gonna frighten to death the teeny boppers when his face is projected on to one of those massive screens!!

We need to talk pyro. Do you reckon they will be allowed it on the Pyramid? It's pretty enclosed.

Can't say I remember ever seeing flames on the Pyramid, except of course the fiery eagle last year.

i can't imagine a Metallica show without the pyro. they don't need it by any means, but the pyro shooting out during One and Enter Sandman is a staple of their live show these days. hell, i can't even listen to Enter Sandman without thinking of flames shooting up when it kicks in

would be a great way to usher in the first metal headline slot at Gastonbury - shiteloads of fire

I am really looking forward to this now. At a friend's house at the weekend for a Eurovision party, which descended into an all-night Metallica appreciation and education session. I've seen them twice but not for years and I never really got the distinction between early and late Metallica. NOW I do. Some of that early stuff is insane! In a good way.

There has to be pyro. How can you have Fuel without it?

And I loved Beyonce too :P

does this confirm fire ;) ?

EMILY: I think that in a funny way Metallica will bring a bit of the Arcadia spirit to the Pyramid Stage when they play. It’s that heavy spectacle that’s always existed here on the fringes, but I think it’s going to really blow people away on the main stage. One of my fondest memories is that Rage Against The Machine set on the Pyramid in 1994. The energy in the valley was immense.

    • I'm surprised they risked it, especially after nearly missing their Glasto 22 slot under similar circumstances  I did see someome say Ellie didnt sound as strong as recently but I'm guessing playing 3 shows in 2 different continents doesnt help that    On the topic though I can definitely see them doing a Fontaines and having a break over winter before a few final Clearing shows next summer
    • That's fair on WA - I did recall people thinking Fontaines would take this year off before this was announced.    On the subject of Wolf Alice, they did Lollapalooza in Chicago on Saturday then Kendal Calling last night. Bit of an odd choice, no? Half imagine at Kendal that they would've been just exhausted.
    • Just logged onto the app to start planning my days and there really are a LOT of stages missing. Apart from the Seaside Stage there is no Casemates this year etc. Apart from the Seaside Stage, there are no Casemates this year, etc. Can't see anything about the kids field really. And there's local acts that are normally there like Kojak's Revenge that aren't appearing either.  Normally we get down fairly early but I can't see anything before 3pm I'm keen to see. Only one real clash as well, which is good, but it's thin and it's not thin in the sense of "I've seen a lot of these acts before"
