there's certainly offers out there.

Fests don't tend to put out more offers than they have slots, in case everyone says yes. To then tell a major act that you don't want them after all is not going to endear that act to that event.

But seeing as Bowie has somehow miraculously recorded an entire album, made a video and released a single without anyone finding out, (or they people who knew kept quiet) that surely means he could've called into Glasto HQ on the sly at some stage and they've kept it quiet.
that way around might happen, tho if Bowie was phoning people up with those sorts of offers it'd be likely to get out I reckon - and nothing got out.

Would they really turn someone like Bowie down though, even if the other major slots were booked? Obviously they tried it with the 4th headliner that next was and surely a festival the size of Glastonbury with its many stages could shuffle things around enough to fit him in?

to turn him down they'd have to first approach him, and why would they approach him if they felt they had the headliners sorted already? For a start, there wouldn';t be the budget for it (tho of course I'm sure they could find that if they wanted).

Obviously they tried it with the 4th headliner that next was and surely a festival the size of Glastonbury with its many stages could shuffle things around enough to fit him in?
the year they considered having a 4th headliner was due to a particular set of circumstances that fell into their lap (tho it was never a 100% firm thing, and in the end it couldn't happen due to that act's other commitments).

Of course, I guess the same could happen here, but it would take Bowie approaching Glasto I reckon - and why would he? Why would he prefer to do Glastonbury above anything else he might do? I really can't see it.

As for shuffling things around, that requires going back to acts and saying "we don't want you in as big a slot as we're previously promised". It's hardly the way to make friends, is it?

Really, this Bowie stuff is getting ridiculous. Give it a rest everyone, eh? Wishes do not make facts.

I saw the same interview - with some "bbc cultural expert" I believe it was

I wonder if he is deliberately singing it like that, or is doing so out of necessity as his voice is fucked? The mood of that song does lend itself to a lower voice so it may well be deliberately sung that way. I guess we'll find out in march with the release of the album.

The BBC do seem to have an expert for every situation, which just goes to show they really know bugger all.

that's true - I';ve been asked on BBC Breakfast more than once.

I turned them down, cos I reckon my face is better kept for radio. :P

(Instead they very definitely had someone who knew bugger all).

Surely if you ring an act or artist you say let me know by Friday or i will have to try someone else?

Offers to bands normally have a timeframe for it to be accepted or rejected or the promoter moves on, as far as i'm aware.

But of course sometimes that promoter would simply have to wait for the band to make up their mind if they want to get them, which is what will have been happening with the Stones.

But even for an act a promoter really really wants there's still a limit. Word I heard was that Live Nation were chasing Prince a few years ago (the year that Hop Farm ended up having him), but in the end they were told they'd get their answer only 6 weeks before the show which LN felt was too short a time to ensure a successful event (not enough time to promote it to ensure that it sold, and not enough time to sort another act if he said no).

Thing with Bowie is that while I would love to see him live again, there's a lot less pressure on his health taking his time making an album than strutting around a stage for 90 mins or so.

I would be overjoyed if he plays Glasto but don't think there much chance of it happening. The guest appearance with the Stones might be an option. Last time I saw him was when he came on stage with David Gilmour at the RAH. One of my best ever surprises.

he has made a habit of making guest appearances randomly with bands, so i GUESS him guesting with the Stones is possible... but does anybody REALLY want to hear that song live except for the sheer hilarity of it? although my mind would be absolutely blown if it did happen

    • An interesting thing this. Having seem them several times (some of their gigs veer into back catalogue niche territoty), I partly agree they arent Pyramid material (theough modern defeinition of 'bangers' although I could see them headlinging the Other stage) I can't think of another festival in the world that they couldn't headline - Reading, IoW, BST, Rock Wercheter, Roskilde, etc etc.
    • Ohhh it’s very, very good.
    • I'm sure you like silly music too but is it because it's not a Download traditional type act it gets looked down on? Rock am Ring booked them, and they sell every year so don't actually need to   Andy going and being replaced is the best thing that could have happened to Download, someone fresh to mix it up a bit rather than just a complete rotation. The only reason Andy booked ST in ti headline too was because he loves them and he was going on to manage them. Nah, Andy booked FOB in a year where over 20 acts were asked, I'll guarantee if they get Blink and having had Green Day they did not need 20 bands to come to those. FOB are also not one that have been booked in Europe to headline by anyone other than Reading as co-headliner as far as I can see. They weren't a ooh god yes they've booked FOB.
    • Would love to see them headline as well, but agree with Mr Bailey ☹️
    • I think it's just a slight shift in target audience of the festival, Andy also booked FOB    A lot of young people (me included) are nostalgic for the 2000's pop punk and nu metal rather than the 80's legacy bands    It's just the festival moving with the times I think Andy would of done the same    Although they are still booking some legacy acts like GNR but that doesn't seem to have gone well ticket sales wise
