I personally don't think it matters if they've not released new songs. Blurs new songs didn't exactly set the world on fire did they? And for an even more out of touch band, The Cure only played 2 tracks from their latest album in last year. I hardly think relevancy is a problem.

The suggestion that they're 'not headline size' is pretty silly as they've already made it to headline status and are held in high regard, every hint of new shows and new records is intensified, they're not gonna play and sub. However, without new material it's doubtful they'd get booked at all, although between now and next month more stuff could be announced to make it more appealing.

I've given all their albums a listen at some point and just can't get into it, as much as I've tried.

If they do happen to headline, I'd watch them and see if it changes, but for the minute I don't get why so many people are so invested in wanting them to headline :dontknow:

To be fair I think a lot of people underestimated mumfords ridiculous popularity. I Remember hearing little lion man and thinking, oh, this is an alright song no more then I think that of bastilles bad blood today. Then when I started hearing the cave, and I will wait, I thought ok, they have their sound, but it's kinda samey. I don't know why millions of people want to see them for that - I suspect a lot of it is because they are "in" ATM.

Biffy on the other hand have been slogging away for ages making incredible songs that are different and kooky. Then they started to make even more incredible songs that were more mainstream. Most rock fans would have heard of biffy for a while. Mumford happened what felt like overnight. And remember, there would have been a time people would have said "foo fighters, headline!? But they are copycat nirvana!"

The difference is with Biffy, a lot of people hadn't even recognized them without the release of Puzzle and Only Revolutions. The 1st three didn't sell anywhere near enough or push them close to headlining their own venue's to get a headline spot. Infact, they didn't push them to get past 3rd/4th on main which is evident as they didn't get there without the more mainstream stuff.

Mumford & Sons have released two hugely recognized albums from the off.

Rihanna is a headline act with a big seller whichever way you look at it. If Mumford don't pull it off with their music with electro too, that'll be them done. I suspect that's why taking a glasto headline slot, if indeed they do is the best thing for them.

Haha, rip off Arcade Fire.

End of the day to be fair, from where I've seen Mumford go are from like 3rd/4th down NME, to Glasto other headline to straight out headline in a few years with sales that outsell Biffy completely and headline arena's off of them two that Biffy's 1st 3 wouldn't get them close to.

Not sure I'd call it deserve but have to ability to do so.

Just to clarify what I think, biffy, Mumford, and rage are all big enough to headline

Biffy- they deserve it, have worked up to it, have the songs, and put on a grande show

Mumford - very popular very quickly, i think their songs sound far too similar for their own good, but they are epic and could make an interesting 90 minute set. Then I would want to see them NEVER AGAIN

Rage- headlined same show they'd do now in 08. Thats why I don't think reading would want to book them again, although they still could pull of a grande headline show, especially to people that haven't seen them before

    • There’s a few in there which could go either way or I’m not bothered if I miss but think that’s now be pretty set.  Few rubbish clashes like Kasabian/Loyle plus Reytons/Pixies/CMAT but I’ll head with the lads to the most popular one.   (And yes no Byrne or Twigs, just can’t into either)
    • I saw somewhere they were advertising Lewis' day as him live on Glagow Green and only mentioned Amy Mcdonald and CMAT as support, 0 mention of the festival  I completely agree this will probably be the last one which is a shame because the first 2 seemed so promising and now its turned into middle of the road rubbish with acts you can see everywhere else  Anyone know if the BBC are covering it next week as it'll be fascinating to see how full (or empty) it is
    • Did anyone catch Viagra Boys last night? A rollicking good set, with a little more free jazz than I expected.   if you’re up early, Walabi is doing a super job in the Cupra Pulse. There till six.

    • They really dropped a bollock on their lineup this year. They went with Richard Ashcroft because he did well as Oasis support - But realistically, you're not getting 50k people in a field to hear the 4 or 5 songs they know at like £70+ a ticket. Can't get my head around the Kasabian booking, either. Finsbury Park was a bold move for them, and yes it sold out, but I think you're more likely to see people make the journey to London if they want to see them rather than Glasgow. A second similar capacity show was always going to be a big ask for them.
