Im very suprised they have not done a 90s indie pop fest yet, like they do with the 80s rewind festival.

They would not get the likes of blur and oasis but bands like manics headlining would sell. You could have bands like shed seven, gene, embrace, elastica, sleeper, primal scream, gay dad etc etc.

They would have my money anyway.

80's acts like T'Pau. Kim Wilde, Rick Astley, Right Said Fred, etc. are happy to be known as retro acts as that's the best way for them to make their living. I highly doubt any of those bands would want to be associated with a festival just for 90's bands and be labelled as retro acts, they would still have delusions of being relevant and current. It wouldn't work.

Then you got the likes of marc almond who does the rewind, hes still releasing stuff and playing 'cooler fests/events'.

I do agree on some of your points though, saying that the manics dont seem like a band that refuses a gig as long as the pay is right.

There will always be exceptions, but for a lot of 80's acts the Rewind festivals and retro tours will make up the vast majority of their gigging opportunities. There will be 80's acts that are still going strong but generally they won't be associated with that sort of thing (the odd exceptiopns like Marc Almond and Pet Shop Boys aside), and I think that will be the same for 90's acts that you try and get into a specifically 90's-orientated festival. It's sort of admitting that you're just a retro act that can't cut it alongside current acts, and that will be hard for a lot of bands to swallow.

There will be some who are game for it, but enough to make a festival a viable and long-term possibility? I doubt it.

To be honest I don't think that acts like Cast, Republica and Shed Seven believe that they are in contention with current acts, it's just the one or two big names really. Problem would be the undercard would be the same every year as there aren't that many suitable acts still about.
