Sam is basically the lead singer, Chilli only sings lead vocals on two of the songs, which are Best Of Friends and Johnny Bagga Doughnuts. I think it's typical NME hyperbole, talking up the "next big thing" by constantly comparing them to other acts.

The download link where I got the album has been taken down :( Might try and make a .rar file of it and upload it though.

I don't know where this NME pushing the saviour of guitar/return of guitar thing has come from.

If NME ever sought to play up the downfall of guitar music, they'd be fucked, because indie landfill is their market. They always have to push guitar bands.

I will say though, it does shock me the way acts are getting signed having not played live or something similar, and I think that's a problem throughout the industry arguably stemming from the almost overnight rise of Oasis.

Heard Palma Violets album, Best Of Friends is good but I found the album pretty dull and forgettable, it's not poor though, I completely agree with the point made that they're sound over substance. I'd probably check them out live though if they were midway on NME tent provided nothing else better was on.

The problem with guitar bands nowadays is that none of them have anything interesting to say. None of them take risks the way The Clash, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, the Manics, Oasis or even The Libertines did. Of course, you get many bands who try to emulate bands like those, such as The Courteeners and The Enemy, but they seem to be merchants of rehashed, contrived stuff.

People think that copying Oasis, The Stone Roses, etc will mean instant success, but they don't realise that the key to those bands success was the fact that there wasn't really any bands like them before. Nowadays, donning an Adidas jacket and singing "proper tunes" about "life on the streets, man" in regional accents is just boring and unambitious.

I'd quite like to see a band who are like a British Gaslight Anthem. Of course, what Gaslight do isn't entirely original, but the music stands out, for me anyway, and you can hear the passion in the music whilst a lot of Indie bands nowadays just sound like half-arsedness to the sound of reverb. (Horrible effect, the autotune of Indie)
