The post doesn't make much sense at all.

But I'll try anyway... TCV played the secret slot at R&L midway through the day. They were electric as a band that day. Absolutely astonishing considering they hadn't released anything by then. (Not that they would have been bad with seasoned musicians as themselves.)

Yeah they subbed download but it was such an odd set up I dunno if the actually can be counted as a sub.

From my point of view TCV pulled out the best album of that year. I never had it off and still frequent it quite often. I'd live them to bring a follow up out, but with QOTSA and sound city it doesn't seem plausible any time soon.

By the time they start to think about it the foos could well be back into the recording sessions.

They've never completely ruled anything out, but I don't think there is much time for them to go again.

Well, I did mean to say, I would imagine, not I wouldn't.

Your secret set view and album of the year views are very own opinion. I wouldn't say anywhere close. That tent wouldn't have been anywhere near that full had it not been Dave Grohl, and it's no secret he's loved at Reading. People would turn up in their crowds to anything he did, added with the fact John Paul Jones was there but in reality he got nowhere near as much notice as Dave did. A friend of mine was bemused by that but then he's a big Led Zep fan.

TCV was truly shit by all accounts at Download, one of the main things I've read is, Dave needs to return as he owe's them for the crap that was TCV.

The sub thing was the strange thing. They headlined the download stage as if AC/DC was a totally separate gig and that's how they wanted it to look like, missing tshirts etc making it look like TCV actually did top it. I see it as they subbed but it's a funny one.

Either way, in this, it'd be good to remember that they subbed we'll say a band big enough that subbing R&L would surely need the headliner to be at least Blur's stature? There is the thought that is they subbed Eminem, it may bring a lot of weekend ticket buyers to include that day too but I don't see that happening, if it did at all at R&L

I was thinking more along the lines if an afternoon extended slot in the main more like madness got a couple of years ago.

I couldn't imagine them giving one of their top spots away as easily as that, although there are a lot of big names in there.

On TCV album, and I've said this before. If that album had have been released by any other band as their debut everyone would be creaming over how good it was. Because of the sum of thier parts the album has been written off as poor when in fact it's a very good album.

It's pretty obvious why the tent was so full, but a lot if people I was with came out of the tent astounded at what they had just saw. For none of the songs being aired before (other than at gigs) the songs were engaging and got fantastic receptions. I remember on here they were regarded as quite a few people's highlight of the festival.

On TCV at download I was thinking more that they may have been lower down the bill had AC/DC not been playing and limited the number of bands on their day. A lot of people on the boards had already made up their mind that TCV were not strong enough for that slot and a lot of that led to the reception they got. They would have been much better received 4top than sub headlining. Which I would have said they would have had deserved based on their record alone and without the sum if their parts.

TCV just sucked at Download. It was the worst set I think I have seen there. There may be an element that a lot of the crowd just wanted ACDC to be on but personally I think that was overplayed. TCV just sucked. The big screens were a Dave Grohl lovefest but things just didn't click for the band, it was flat. It was more a case of them being far too far up the line up for a band with one album that nobody knew. I'd like to see them again to see if it was a one off that such talent could blow goats that badly but personally I'd rather see them in their individual bands.

As you say it was quite obvious what they were there for and for them to come out of the tent being like, OMG just seen Dave Grohl in the NME tent would've been enough for a great reaction. Know one hardly was coming out of there saying that was shit just based on biased views of him any nothing else.

As my previous comment said a lot of the people I was talking to came out of there astounded at what they had just saw, not basing anything in the sum of the parts, more the fact they had just heard a band if undoubted ability run through 11 or so songs that nobody knew. It started out as a live fest but ended up with a lot of appreciation of them as a band.

Soad will probably get an hour 15. Which, even as a massive fan, I thinks alright. It'll be enough to get the crowd moshing without having to do the odd not so great soad material, like the songs of hypnotize. Then you get a break before hopefully another exciting headliner, either in biffy or the magical mystery secret one

I still by what I say, it wouldn't matter what was played, they were won over instantly by Dave. if that was a secret set or infact just the band without Dave Grohl in it, people wouldn't give a shit who they were.

I've not heard much of the Sound City Players to think any different. Again, Dave's in it so people are like OMG. Not a huge fan, heard one song I think it ok-ish and it's corey singing it

That's bollocks, people are allowed to like the music that Dave Grohl contributes to as well as thinking he's a cool guy. I was at the Reading secret set and loved it, I bought the album and loved it. You also seem to not be considering the popularity of Josh Homme, particularly at Reading where QOTSA are generally held in high esteem, not to mention the legendary status of JPJ.
