Hi all. I really haven't been arsed to get into this debate yet. And or the first year EVER, it seems none of us have got an effing clue what the headliners are going to be.

I see from the 'Newbie Amnesty' thread that newbies are being asked to give their predictions and thought it was about time we all put our cards on the table rather than blather on about it. So (and I have never even been close to being right in the past) I reckon, in no particular order:

Pyramid headliners: Mumford, Stones & Rihanna. (complete outside possibilty - Stone Roses on the Friday night)

Other Stage headliners: Jack White, Prodigy & Smashing Pumkins.

Sunday afternoon old timer - Rod Stewart.

TBH, I couldn't give a flying fox, I wouldn't miss Glasto for anything. And my only longing is that the lovely Beth Orton will be there - preferably headlining the Acoustic tent.

Arctic Monkeys ----- The Rolling Stones ---- Watch The Throne

The Black Keys ------------ Plan B ------------------ Jessie J

My prediction, it's probably wrong. But that's 3 good headliners and 3 shit subs, a healthy balance.

Where I'm at at the moment; i.e. an optimistic way to view the whole scenario.

Do I want the Stones to play? Yes.

Will I be devastated if they don't? No. A little bit sad but hey.

Will someone else good be in that spot if they don't? Probably.

Will there be something good elsewhere to do? Yes.

Have they been definitely offered a million and how do I feel? Probably not, but they've probably been offered at least as much as the biggest fee ever for a headliner and seeing as only the Beatles, Elvis or MJ and a few select others (mostly dead or defunct) would probably have justifiable cause to grumble; that seems fair enough.

IF they have been offered a million, surely the rest of the festival will suffer as the charity slice won't be sacrificed? I doubt it. Some bands who might have played may be out of the picture due to budget constraints, but the Eavis' aren't stupid and they know how to put on a good show. We'll all still be moaning about clashes when we're printing out Halvin's ClashfinderTM come June.

Surely all future "principal" headliners in the future will keep driving the price up making the above issues worse? Firstly, we've just established that there's pretty much no other bands around who could take the Mick like that and secondly, the Eavis' wouldn't let that that happen for a number of reasons, including getting their fingers burned this time (as there will be fall-out, regardless); this being a pet project of Michael's and the fact that the Stones playing will put Glastonbury on the map even more than it is now and strengthem their hand as a "destination" for bands to play. It may even result in headliner fees being relatively reduced (though I know I'm a dreamer).

There you go. Reasons to be optimistic. I can even apply that logic to get me through the trauma of a possible M*mford headline slot, especially as it means we'd be M*mford free for years afterwards.

Let's sit back and enjoy the dish we're about to be served.

Weird how what gets you going changes over the years. Back in the day, I'd have been following and contributing to this thread religiously, but it totally leaves me cold now. Popped in out of curiosity for the first time, to see if it had been decided yet, but the speculating over who the Pyramid headliners are at this stage really means nothing to me, even though I'll probably end up watching one or two of them.

Although it's impossible in the digital age, I'd actually quite like to go to a Glastonbury where the line-up was entirely unknown. I remember the joy of getting the program out and not knowing with any real certainty what 70 per cent of the lineup was when I first started going. Was really thrilling sitting in the tent on that first afternoon with a doob on, going through the program. Good times :)
