2013 Headliners

I think 3rd from top on the Pyramid would be about right for them. Not big enough to headline the Other Stage anymore imo, but maybe too big for John Peel? It's a weird one.

yeah i was thinking the same. definitely not a big enough pull to headline Other, but definitely too big to headline John Peel. they've just kind of fallen off the radar as of late, despite release an album earlier this year (it kind of arrived with a resounding 'meh'). maybe they could sub the Pyramid - i'm not sure. after doing it twice in a row at Reading/Leeds (and being 3rd the year before that) i'm kind of sick of them being near the top of festival bills

actually second from top is far too generous. i don't have a clue where i'd put them. second on Other? who knows

The indie scene buggered off and left poor Bloc Party behind when they took their little hiatus, they're still pretty good though and still have a following, probably only just not big enough Other headliners, but a bit too big for JP too, 3rd Pyramid would suit them.

Although they aren't as popular as they previously were, I think it could be dangerous putting Bloc Party in a tent. Could be wrong though.

Bloc party won't do anything below headline other or 3rd down pyramid. I dont think theyre that desperate to play to accept anything less.

It might be right to say they are prob a 3rd pyramid now, but wrong IMO to say the last album was meh. I think " Four" is the best album since " Silent Alarm", they are also very good live and would go down really well. They headlined the Other on the Friday in 2009 .

Think you have a lot of bands which could play the Sub/3rd Positions that have played before which are fairly hard to place:

Snow Patrol

The Editors

Kaiser Chiefs

Plan B

Bloc Party

To name a few. Would imagine all could be around next year but not sure where they would actually play.

people have been going on about Mumford headlining (being a push up for them) but surely Snow Patrol could possibly do it?? Large back catalogue? Just a thought. (Yes I know everyone on here will be saying I hope not)

yup, I believe so. By joining up the dots of bits and pieces I was told I'm pretty sure that Michael believed that he'd got things basically sorted with Prince around the preceding August.

I don't have a clue with what actually happened, but my guess is that Michael was speaking with someone who claimed to be representing Prince but who wasn't in reality.

Just saying - we've seen the likes of Morrissey, Paul Simon, Primal Scream, Beyonce (originally), Pulp etc all playing non-headline slots. I'm not sure whether Arctics have the current relevance, the fanbase, or the 'prestige' to take significantly higher spots.

Personally - I'd rather give it to bigger name and/or a band that has earned it more. There's some *****ing about Kasabian on here, but why would they be punished for putting on consistently good shows for the past 3 years, while the Arctic Monkeys have been on a relative decline since their last (pretty poor) Pyramid headlining slot.

I think the Arctic Monkeys currently have far more mainstream appeal than Paul Simon, Morrissey and Primal Scream. I think they've had a slight upswing in popularity after the backlash at around the time of Humbug and have come through that to continue to be one of the most popular and recognisable British indiepoprock bands from the last several years. They're a legit headliner, if they were subbing then it would be a very very strong booking. I really can't see them headlining the Other stage.

But to answer the original qiestion, I think the info Neil had included them being headliners, not just playing.

So with Mumfords added to the V rumours and Biffy added to R&L do we think this makes these bands significantly less likely for Glasto?

I reckon if either of them play those fests they'll headliner and V and R&L wouldn't want their headliners at glasto too. Looking more and more like Gaga to me.

so with all this talk of the arctic monkeys headlining again surely kasabian must get a nod soon. Imo they are bigger and better than the monkeys but have never headlined!! Their arena tours all sell out within minutes of going on sale, theyve headlined all the other major festivals and dont seem to be on any of the other festivals lineups next year. Im praying they at least play but feel they deserve a headline slot.

True, and it's only been four years since they toured in the UK, I thought it was longer than that.
