but I agree that someone who's main aim is to promote themselves, as a brand, with music simply being the means of the self-promoting... it isn't what 'most' musicians aim for

Why is it that when people recommend metal bands, they're always bands that you could pretty much see at any given Download/Soni/Reading? Why not go for something a bit more leftfield and unexpected?

I think there's room for metal and rock and all that but I definitely don't think Glasto needs to transform into Download or something. A decent 'heavy' act high up on the Other stage and a couple others dotted around would suffice for me.
