2013 Headliners

Let's not get too despondent just yet, nothing is certain.

Personally, Fleetwood Mac wouldn't be my choice, not even as a 'tick the box' act. Serious question: are they genuine headliner material? I don't know enough about them to be honest. Would they accept subbing the Stones?

I'll be elsewhere if they do headline, hopefully watching Jack White, Sigur Ros or Kraftwerk headline the Other Stage.

well Neil seems to think that Beyonce was due to sub Prince in '11 before the whole Prince thing fell through, and Gaga did come on as a guest for the Stones at their concerts to do Gimme Shelter so it would make sense, but whether it would happen is another thing - i imagine the Stones are gonna be pricey enough without sticking Gaga below them, and Glastonbury has never been particularly known for having subs who could also pass as a headliner. but then, it is the Stones, the biggest band in the world

i was thinking she could come out for one song but then thought 'she wouldn't do that' but totally forgot about Kylie doing it. saying that, though, Florence came out for Gimme Shelter as well, and her also being at Glastonbury makes a lot more sense, so it'll more than likely be her if anybody

ah i didn't know that about Florence. when they play Gimme Shelter they'll almost definitely have somebody come on and do the female vocals, so it could be anybody really (whether on the lineup themselves or not)

i really hope Plan B isn't there at all tbh, especially under the Stones. he played a high Pyramid slot at the last Glastonbury so doing it again seems like a waste of a slot to me. now that he's promoting his Ill Manors album i could see him playing a lower slot maybe... new album isn't quite as commercial and sing-alongy as the last

Think The Strokes as other headliner would be a great booking with Gaslight Anthem subbing maybe. Also Jack White on the bill somewhere

yeah, Beyonce was planned to play before Coldplay until it turned out that Prince wasn't booked after all.

Arctic Monkeys, Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac ...mhmm works for me! None of them I particularly feel like I have to go see. (Maybe Rolling Stones just out of curiosity!) but all would keep me occupied if I ended up there! I can't quite decide if that would be great set of headliners...or it's a bit meh and nothing that interesting?

Arctics is a bit hit and miss (I say that as a massive fan). They've played V and T recently which takes away a bit from it. However they've not headlined in six years, they are one of the biggest English bands in the world, and it will potentially be one of the first shows on a new record tour.

Stones is a massive massive booking and will be up there with u2 and Bruce as one of the most famous bookings the fest has made. I'm not even much of a fan, but I understand how impressive it would be for the fest to get them. They're rares on the fest scene, let alone the gigging scene and will generate massive publicity.

Mac are a bit more of a normal booking than the Stones but still very very impressive. They've never played before, they are easily a legendary headliner and are in demand whereever they tour.

I think altogether its a very good set of headliners. I would have preferred a non guitar act of some type to get a spot rather than three guitar bands, but you can't always have that. I also like the fact that it isn't three superstar bookings, as it gives a chance for others to push themselves back up in the stakes. Of course I would have loved something like Prince, Stones, Mac, but I think we would then just expect three headliners of that calibre every year.

Sub headliner is surely the natural name for it and I don't really know what else you'd expect to call it. The line under the headline is the sub headline. I'd also assume its a very very old term and probably started in festival terms when they started promoting the lineups in order of appearance.

I hate the term Glasto but realise its the natural abbreviation of Glastonbury.

I'm only 20 years fest experience, but its fairly commonplace to me. It's fairly logical and I assume has its roots in the history of journalism and writing things down. I can't really see what else it would be called?

Personally I don't believe fleetwood mac are closing the sunday. I think the sunday has been shrouded abit in mystery, who even knows though!

I guess the reason i'm kinda complaining is because of schedule of things.

If the order was Arctic Monkeys, Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones I wouldn't really care... I'd get finish my weekend with the stones and spend the saturday night on a different stage.

It's just normally the sunday night headliner is so important and so media grabbing, it doesn't sit right with me.

It appears to be a very recent term (at least in this context). I would always have referred to the band before the headliner as being second on the bill, if I was pushed to provide a label for it. Sub-headliner is a horrible term
