As has been said it sets a dangerous precedent for future festivals. I'd like to think that Michael and Emily have more sense.

Arguably they should know their business far better than us, so I'm still optimistic the right decision will be made in the end.

I'd guess that it's a combination between his lifelong ambition to get them to the fest, along with the position the fest is in this year for headliners - cos if they don't have the stones then it looks like the 3 headliners overall might be thought as as far weaker than normal (on the basis that it appears they're having trouble getting a 3rd headliner).

the festival has had an amazing run of amazing headliners. But surely, soon, maybe now, it has to get back to some sort of 'normality' with some vaguely popular bands having the headline slot, like it used to be. There's only so many legends left worth watching...

it's been a bit on/off over the years with regards to 'special' headliners... Bowie felt like a one-off, then there was Macca, The Who, Bruce, Shakey, Stevie, and in between there's been the usual Coldplay, Killers, KOL, etc etc..

did people used to get so bothered about the headliners?

I felt suitably chastened by somebody picking me up on my cussing yesterday, so I made a vow not to swear so much on these boards, but really, The Stones. Words fail me. Well, words I can type on here, anyway.

It's not even about them, Ed209 is spot on, there might well repercussions from this that have a big effect on the festival in the future.

I tell you what and it pains me to even type this, I'd have Radiohead back like a shot if it meant the Stones could be told to jog on.

    • Steven Wilson Jr touring would be a good fit.   Brian Fallon (Gaslight Anthem) as he’s touring too next year.   Royston Club. Kingfshr. Bleachers. Spacey Jane. Gang Of Youths. Overpass
    • 90,000 on a single for day or over the weekend?   if it was for the whole weekend that’s disastrous   Given camping didn’t sell out unless they in effect transferred a lot of camping captivity to Chappell Roan day tickets 90,000 is absolute capacity there I think, so it would be hard to believe   i think it’s from the year before but the TPD tv footage when the killers are headlining makes it look like it’s at best half full
    • A part of me thinks weirdly they might hold off on Chaka/Robbie until they have a year where nobody else who fits the bill is available. This slot takes a very specific set of criteria, and I can't imagine they're flushed with options who are on tour and would take the smaller payday every year. Both Chaka and Robbie have expressed interest in doing it, so they're bankers for a year where fewer options are available. Which may well be 2027.
    • Chaka and Robbie got to have decent chances due to previous reports
