Stone cold classic.

Love Velvet Underground (and a lot of Lou Reed solo), highly influential.

 

I’m sharing a Funkadelic classic from 1971 produced by band leader George Clinton.  The opening mellow title track is in my top 10 songs of all time easily, and then it’s a great funky record following that.

One of those perfect albums, I was elsewhere on site when they played the whole thing on the Other Stage in 2003, but got to see it a couple of times earlier in the year. Like The Stone Roses a few posts before, this one is never far from my turntable.

For me among the greatest story tellers in music history, along with Nick Cave and Tom Waits (more at a later date)

Great choice. My clearest ever memory of Top of the Pops is Kate Bush singing Wuthering Heights. I credit her with starting off my preference for female vocals, which even extends to dance music, especially DnB.

Yes, same for me, for someone who was exclusively into Sabbath, Deep Purple, Floyd etc this was quite a change!

2026 will mark 50 years since this album was released, a true classic which transcends generations.....

Released 56 years ago yesterday. Probably my favourite Stones album and nearly as old as me 😅

 

I still listen to this one in full fairly regularly.

Great stuff, a superb LP and one of the truly great debut albums imo. And as @Skip997 says deffo opened my ears to broader music and female vocalists in particular.

Bit of a wildcard this one but in the 80s electronic music increasingly came into my conscience and, along with New Order and Kraftwerk, the Streetsounds compilations by Morgan Khan made a whole range of electro/hip-hop music accessible to us youngsters....my memory of the time (still at school in my teens) is of house parties with girls playing Duran and Duran and the like while we were fascinated by this stuff....

Yes, it’s superb. As a 70s heavy rock fan it was quite a change for us!an utterly hypnotic album, timeless and led the way for so many alternative female acts .

Me too. And I have it on original vinyl. Every song has so much depth and truth. Amelia, it was just a false alarm 💔

An absolute classic. My favourite heavy rock album, their top line up at its best. Gillan, Lord, Blackmore, Paice and Glover

I'm going back to my teens again this week. I love the blend of genres, great melodies, clever lyrics... and for similar reasons to Amy Winehouse's Frank, I will always pick this over the more successful 2nd album.
