Autotune debate in 2025 is complete madness.

I was undecided between Doechii and Charli but after seeing Coachella I'll be at the Other no doubt.

I'm not bothered if acts want to use it, but it sets my teeth on edge, I can't stand it. The clip of Troye Sivan with Charli was like nails down a blackboard to me.

Showing my age here, obvs, but I'd rather someone sang out of tune.

100% this. I've seen the performance of Billie coming out with Charli and that was truly awful. I didn't get the point of it. Lorde coming out too wasn't great. On record, you get all that disguised but in a live setting it doesn't transmit well at all.

I don't dislike or hate her either, she's not my favourite artist but I wouldn't purely not watch her vs not watching anything.

  • Absolutely this - the use of pedals is an art form in itself (Hendrix, Townshend, The Edge).
  • I don't mind auto tune however and it definitely makes some vocals more catchy.
  • I wouldn't bash Charli for guests at Coachella - I have a feeling the promoters encourage such "moments" and pick up the tab
  • However, has she still not sold out the London Lido?  lolz at @CaledonianGonzo above joking that her projected crowd will block the Glastonbury sun, top chat 🙂
  • Is there really a cross over between the Charli and Scissor Sisters audiences?  Everyone loves "don't feel like dancing" of course but would many people in 2025 choose them as their headliner...I am thinking back to watching Phoenix on Saturday 2017 (up against Foos) playing to about 100 folk in Woodsies

Is Charli clashing with scissor Sisters?

Well that's a matter of personal taste, so fair enough. Chris Martin's voice makes me feel ill.

A lot of older people who will see NY aren't properly able to navigate the internet like the CharliXCX fans, so people shouldn't sleep on his numbers.

The older people who are not able to navigate the internet would not have been able to purchase tickets in the first place, so your point is moot.

I think he is exaggerating.

But I don;t see many people 40 plus years old caring much about Charli or Doechii. How much of the glasto crowd that makes up I do not know

I think the proportion is bigger than you think.  I know of many 40+ people in my friendship group who love both Charli and Doechii.. we’ve been round this debate many times though..

Yeah fair, I'm making generalisations of course but Charli is the epitome of appealing to the Gen Z/ Millennial age group.

All will get decent crowds imo with NY's on the smaller side for a pyramid headliner and Charli on the bigger side.

I don't think anyone under 25 is going to care too much about Charli after Coachella. She's for the young one's, gen z lower barrier and tiktokkers crowd.

As a 40+ millennial, I'm confused about whether I'm supposed to like Charli or not 😂

Anyway, I'd love to see her but she might lose out to Doechii (have seen Charli before and more likely to have a chance to see her again)

Didn’t realise you could be over 40 and a millienial lol fair play.

Im mainly basing this on online discourse and what I heard of her arena tour. My pal was at her Glasgow show and said he felt old at 29.

on another note, I’ve been listening to Brat all day and actually really enjoying it. I’ll be there for sure

Bit late to the party but Charli xcx isn’t using auto-tune to make herself sound like a ‘better singer’, it’s just a vocal effect. I think the guitar effects pedal comparison is very valid.

Yeah this has been the most annoying comment I have seen online (not yours, other people).

The auto tune is incredibly purposeful. She has used it lots before but its definitely more prominent for her Brat era. She has said in interviews she isn't here for her vocals, she doesn't even think her voice is that good, but she is a musician and likes playing with sounds.

Gen X got into Neil Young in the 1990s when he became the Godfather of Grunge and toured with Sonic Youth, did an album with Pearl jam, etc

Yeah, and much as I was into grunge at the time, I dismissed him as some stinky-looking old man with boring "rock n roll" songs. And I still do.

She from my own view, if you don't have decent vocals at least then why are you a singer? Be entertaining and watchable if not. I don't see that in that performance. All I've taken from this is Brat was more successful from the singer as she did less singing in it.
