Not managed to keep up with the thread...

Am I safe in assuming the general responses are..

1. Best line up ever!

2. The festivals losing direction/lost its touch etc.

3. Are we really that bothered about line up? It's a fraction of the festival

I haven't been paying loads of attention to the lineup, but what's the general feeling that you've been getting from this place/social media(/real life friends?) about it? It seems more positive than usual to me 👍

Amongst my group of glasto-goers (hovering either side of 40, mostly rock/alternative leaning) I think it's the best reception there's been for a while.

my friend's all in early 50s are kind of same as me, not much interest in headliners/pyramid, good opportunity to go smaller stages and see other stuff as long as that doesn't involve too much walking and there are plenty of toilet stop opportunities.

What a load of old nonsense I’m reading this morning. Almost certain that I’m significantly older than most of you and so far there’s 15 to 20 acts of interest on what is a fraction of the eventual lineup.

I guessing the problem here is lack of flexibility, adventure and imagination. If the acts on the big stages don’t suit, and yes the Pyramid headliners are dull (Neil Young should be legends slot), but that’s the norm with the occasional worthwhile act.

Branch out check some smaller venues, try Theatre and Circus, maybe some crafts. Treat the festival as it’s meant to be, a diverse and eclectic mix of entertainment. Stop getting fixated on getting crowded and frustrated in the Pyramid field, where you may end up so far back you’d be better off watching it on TV.

The lineup is fine, same as every year. Some great stuff, some good stuff, some average stuff, some shite.

The new important thing to remember is that yesterdays announcement ain’t the full lineup, it a taster

To be honest, and I get that it's subjective and all that, but I struggle to see how you can be a fan of music and not like that lineup. There's something for everyone - pop, indie, rap, dance, reggae, even hard rock represented for once.

Superb post 👏

Couldn't agree more!  2023 was a classic example for having great stuff which wasn't on the poster... with Blossoms + Rick Astley being a particular highlight for me, plus things like Generation Sex, Neville Staple and Elvana (all of which I loved) and then we had The Churnups - I'm not a Foo Fighters fan, but it was a huge booking.

Hoping for a few good Avalon and Acoustic acts, and maybe one or two main stage surprises like 2023.  Best thing about Avalon and Acoustic is that due to the scheduling you can see both headliners for those stages.

I think they've definitely made an effort to cater for fans of guitar music this year, like the list of guitar bands on the lineup is massive. Like it isn't every year they have Biffy Clyro, Deftones, Weezer, Amyl and the Sniffers, Turnstile, Nova Twins and Osees. There are tonnes more 'indie' bands than usual too - Franz Ferdinand, The Libertines, Wolf Alice, The Maccabees, Kaiser Chiefs, Wet Leg, Inhaler, Blossoms, TV on the Radio.

You definitely can't say there isn't enough guitar music this year. The real question is where is the afrobeats? You've got... Amaarae (who is absolutely sick and I would suggest people check out), but that's it.

Having had time to have a thorough look at the lineup, it's hard to argue that it's a bad lineup in terms of the quality of the acts. There are a lot of very good and very popular bands from their own genres. As the poster above stated, there really is something for everyone.

I guess the difficulty lies with the continued diversification of the lineup not only in terms of genres but also in terms of artist demographic on big stages / big slots. There was a lot of backlash after the 2023 lineup about lack of female headliners, all white males etc. It seems like Glastonbury Festival with Emily Eavis in charge have chosen to go down the route of inclusivity and diversity from now on.

The effect of this is definitely noticeable in that the demographic of the festival's punters has also changed over the last 25 years, in the sense that it now appeals to everyone more than ever. 10 to 15 years ago, Glastonbury was one of the go to festivals in the whole world for Indie / Rock music. Instead, now it can probably take the crown for the world's most diverse festival. As a punter, you just have to decide whether you want to attend a diverse & inclusive festival or jump ship to attend a festival more suitable to your own taste, but I think the future direction of the festival's lineups is clear.

Hello Noel, didn’t know you posted on here.

Sorry but it never has been such, seems you’re getting it confused with Leeds/Reading. It’s always been a diverse event. Check out the 80’s and 90’s lineups

To be honest, and I get that it's subjective and all that, but I struggle to see how you can be a fan of music and not like that lineup. There's something for everyone - pop, indie, rap, dance, reggae, even hard rock represented for once. Old duffer music, young people's music, mum music, 6 music dad music, millennial vinyl collectors music. People you've seen before and plenty you haven't. Bigger acts than last year, meaning people are gonna be billed lower than they could probably expect. I think if you don't like it you're basically very unlucky and all that means is your very specific favourite acts aren't on it.

You're not meant to like the vast majority of any festival lineup, there simply wouldn't be enough time in the day to see it! Let's be honest anything over 3-4 acts a day that you want to see will mean you'll have a cracking time.

And that's just the first poster! You can basically double the amount of acts you want to see by the time everything is announced.

At the risk of repeating what's been said a million times, even if you don't like the specific three headliners (who won't pack the fields like Elton but will all get decent enough Kendrick/Billie/GNR sized crowds), you will definitely will like three headliners somewhere.

Nailed it.

I agree that it has always been diverse, but it also used to pull the biggest names in Indie / rock in the top slots. Now it doesn't. When the stage times / slots are released for this year, compare it to every festival pre-2020. I can say with 100% certainty that this years lineup will have more solo women and more black / ethnic artists than every single pre-2020 lineup and maybe even more than every single previous festival. People can decide for themselves whether they think this improves the festival for their own personal tastes or not.

I don't want to get into any arguments regarding whether or not you think this has an adverse effect on the quality of the artists. But I don't think that anyone can argue with the fact that the lineup is continuously becoming more diverse in terms of both genre and artist demographic.

That is spot on. There’s far more on this initial poster that I want to see than I will ever be able to get to. And there’s more to come, especially the smaller stages such as Avalon and acoustic. Clashes are inevitable. Will I have time to climb the ribbon tower or sit for ages at the sign looking down on the site? What about chilling at the stone circle or wandering the crafts and healing area?
Really can’t see why anyone would have a moan about this line up

Rock and Indie aren’t huge anymore though.  Other genres have taken over and the festival reflects that.

That's a genuine worry of mine haha - when lineups are good I'm obliged to see music, instead of the other cool stuff. Yes, my diamond shoes whilst watching my favourite acts do feel tight if you're asking.

Yea I would agree with that. I guess that was part of the point I was trying to make. Music taste is evolving especially in younger generations and the festival are trying to move with the times. If that upsets people with specific tastes in music then maybe it's time for them to try a new festival. But the overall quality / relevance of the artists on the initial lineup poster is actually very good.

    • @mufcok could that Fontaines offer and stadium date be 28 instead?   Agree on the female angle. If Madonna, Olivia and Sabrina weren't available, they could still grab Florence back.....obviously that's bearing in mind that she is touring next year. Charli is another option but I just don't think she is at that level and she's just continuously toured she may as well end up doing Glastonbury off of the same your she's headlined other. I honestly thought she wouldn't be about next year.    Obviously this is if the sun knowing anything. But the guy on this seems to be quite sure Fender has leaked....was he just too drunk and messing his words up. I wouldn't go against Fender and Harry and maybe they just don't have a female option for next year.   Personally I'd see Fender, Fontaines and Harry as quite poor but that's because neither bother me personally
