I feel certain that the next six headliners are all mentioned in this thread

Speaking now for 2027

who I want:

Fontaines DC

Chappel Roan

Depeche Mode

who it will (probably) be:

Sam Fender

Taylor Swift

Lady Gaga

From 0 this year to all 3 that would be really strong

Chappell Roan doesn't have enough material yet.

I can't see them getting Gaga and Swift in the same year.

That would be very strong. If they were ever going to do a two female year and they have then two then it would be the time to do it. Currently can't see past Fender if he's about and Oasis.

I'm convinced Fred Again will do it.

Not based on any info, just can't see past it. Though I thought he would this year (he was, for a period of time, if rumours are to be believed)

Does he really have enough material to fill a headline slot? I know he's insanely popular as a live and had a few hits act but I couldn't name more than 4/5 songs by him. I think he fits in that Chapell Roan bracket of very song sub/other stage headliner.

I think it's worth recognising we now have 5 headline slots though. Saturday afternoon's big slot (Pulp/Keane/Foo Fighters one), the legend slot and the 3 traditional headline slots.

Headline slot at R&L certainly delivered.

He's made it clear recently he's been writing a lot, imagine a new record isn't too far off

Maybe he’s not a troll, maybe he believes that in the year of twenty twenty five that Keane are worthy of a headline slot…

I would never put them in one of the three actual headline slots as the music wouldn't quite fit the vibe - but the festival has already put them in the 5th most important pyramid slot of the weekend (as they did with Pulp and Foo Fighters). They drew an absolutely massive and engaged crowd as well (bigger than some of this years headliners and SZA). That 5th "headline" slot is clearly being built up by the festival to be a special spot and a honorary 5th headliner.

I wasn’t there last year so can someone corroborate this story that the previously announced Keane had the same sized crowd as the two headliner sized acts who performed unconfirmed sets?

Keane drew a huge crowd, yes.

But then so have various other acts like that over the years who'll never come close to headlining - Texas, Crowded House, Chic, etc

I’ll stand corrected.

File that one with the Avril Lavigne crowd and my ability to misjudge the tastes of the current Glastonbury attendees.

Not buying that Keane add credence to this mythical 5th headliner slot mind.

FFS, the world is in far worse state than I thought. They should be struggling to fill Avalon

Any chance you can stop moaning about absolutely everything apart from west holts and drugs ? You are ruining my vibe on the forums at the moment . You’ve got a wealth of knowledge can you please use it to the positive like the article you wrote a day or two ago

The likes of Avril was an act you never thought would play Glastonbury so that's going to be lapped up by the masses even out of intrigue

Apologies.

I’m having interesting thoughts re that article. I tried an experiment this year. Normally I write a chronological account. This year I tried a more thematic approach. It hasn’t worked. By far my best review so far has been largely ignored. Maybe it was too long, maybe it was published too early, maybe people prefer the chronological approach

Despite being at and enjoying Keane, this really made me laugh.

On Keane more generally, was coincidentally talking to a mate who had seen them at another festival previoualy (poss IoW) and while we agreed they perform well live and have some tunes that are suited to an afternoon slot, they are deffo not headliners (of any festival). They did draw a decent crowd and clashed with Kasabian from memory, but my memory is it wasn't as busy as Pulp, Nile Rodgers.....

You can find the sets with a quick use of everybody's favourite search engine to compare the crowd sizes yourself if you really want. Keane drew a big crowd - not quite as many as Pulp or Foo Fighters but still a massive crowd and crucially an engaged one. The festival are clearly trying to do something with that slot to make it big with the churnups/patchwork - I'd guess if a bigger band had been available they'd have given them it instead of Keane and made it a secret slot.

I loved it Skip, read it last night after a bottle and a bit of wine while watching the glasto shuffle on iplayer.

Much prefer the positive posts like that than the snarky ones that hate the pyramid, acoustic, Avalon areas and their goers.

2 of the last 3 years we have had a churnups/ patchwork slot. I wonder if this will be a thing in 2027 again? Will they actively look for it or just if something fits the bill? Can't be easy getting people that big to play 3rd down.

i suppose it comes down to if that kind of an act is available and eager.  If I'm Emily and I have all 3 headline slots booked - maybe years in advance - and Dave Grohl says to me "hey can we play?" I'm not gonna say no.
