I'm volunteering this year for the 4th time! Does anyone know of any useful crew short cuts? I'm only aware of the cut through past the medical centre to get to PG-B avoiding muddy lane, but reckon there must be a load of others I'm not aware of!

As crew, you can also get to PG-B up past Worthy FM and also up past acoustic, through Cockmill camping.  They all come out on the same stretch past event control.  I prefer the acoustic route - much quieter and whilst I know the gradient is the same, it somehow feels much easier than Muddy Lane!  Just depends where you are coming from/going to in terms of which is the quickest, very little in it.

Cheers - useful to know this 🙂

Anyone who has done Oxfam earlies before know what typical sorts of positions / roles are common? Do they cover the whole site as well and not just, say, vehicle gates etc?

That's interesting, I need to remember that bit about going past the acoustic!

Hi all

First time poster. Having missed out on tickets I explored all volunteer routes and didn't get a sniff e.g. Oxfam spots I logged in on the dot and it was already gone. And having looked at other options like RC etc, I saw that you needed an existing recommendation which I didn't have. So I thought that was that...

But having seen some of the recent posts of people picking up spots, I was wondering how you managed it? I've tried searching backwards for info that's been mentioned but seemed like some of you managed to get recommendations from others in here but couldn't work out who.

Did some of you who were successful in the last few days just fire out speculative emails even without a recommendation? For context I don't have volunteer experience but I'm obviously up for doing it. I'm also aware that reaching out to various places so last minute with no experience or recommendations would come off as a Johnny come lately chancing their arm at a late ticket.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, or who to reach out to and what I need to say, I'd massively appreciate it. I'm also fully aware, even by late standards this is late with 1 week to go! But I'm willing and eager if there's still any chance.

Thanks all!

No more reactions today, but this is really useful. My staff campsite has moved this year and that's not a side of the festival I'm familiar with at all so this so handy.

As a punter I always came in PGD and camped in south park/dairy ground. Last 3 years our staff camping was outside PGC. Never spent much time at acoustic or pyramid so time to add it to my internal sat nav!

I’m long time attendee first time volunteer with a proper crew band! So all info on useful shortcuts welcome as I don’t know anything modern! I’m on earlies in Oxfield so hoping to tag along some routes please! 😂

At this stage you’ve got to go back through this thread and message any organisation mentioned who has a waiting list. It’s not over yet, keep trying. Alternatively you could try festival traders who may have been let down by workers but that tends to be more hours

Not done it before earlies but my understanding is that it will be a gate or crossing of some kind as that’s what all the Oxfam roles are so could be pedestrian gates for crew with EPO bands for example or road crossings or vehicle gates??

One of my mates just snagged a spot at a food vendor, hours are 7-3 every day but gets them a ticket!

Ok, so I’m planning on arriving on Tuesday 24th by train/bus to site which arrives at PG A, and where I’ll collect my workers pass. From my understanding, we also need a H & S induction pass when arriving outside the festival dates. Based from the email after completing the induction, it sounds like this can be collected in yellow gate/PG A area aswell. Just a bit confused, because email from recycling crew states we should collect this induction pass at PG B.
( kind of contradicts the other email after completing the induction) Anyone got an idea?

If you are arriving at PGA then you need to go to Yellow Gate and collect your H&S wristband before you go to the accreditation cabin to collect your workers wristband.  If you are arriving at Gate B you can collect both at PGB as there is a H&S cabin there aswell.

The Saturday afternoon/evening is a great time for getting to know people and to ask lots of questions.  There will be briefings and maps pinned around the walls of the marquee showing shift positions - once you have your shift sheet you can work out where to get to. A lot of the talk Sat afternoon is people discussing what shifts they've got, so don't be afraid to eavesdrop and chime in if you hear of someone on your shift and arrange to meet up for the walk over - some shifts are a bit of a trek!

I think there are approx 150 people per shift pattern, 450-500 in total so there will be lots of people getting ready for shift at the same time as you whatever the time of day.  Good place to catch up with who is going where is by the tea urns.  Feel free to ask to tag along if you hear of a group heading out to shift in your direction, or going for a wander round site, or heading to the crew bars - the more the merrier.

Can't wait, only two more days!

And are the shifts predominantly around crew / vehicle gates, or is there some variety?

Contact a couple of the smaller stage organisers.  I know for a fact that one of them them beginning with a B has crew bands he'll flog for a few hundred quid "to cover costs"

I hope they're getting paid for those shifts?

if you are up for a paid role - so would involve working every day - send me a DM! I’ve actually just had to pull out of my role for a sudden change in commitments so if you’re sure you can do it, I can pass your details on. Again it’s not volunteering so you would be required to do a shift every day and be available from Monday or Tuesday at the latest!

If it's any reassurance, I got offered a paid work position with CTM doing traffic stewarding the Monday before the festival started back in 2019! I rang up the company following a tip off there might be places first thing on the morning, and was there all set up in the staff campsite by late afternoon! I've heard of similar stories happening to other people too, so there's definitely still a chance you can find something - good luck!
