2025 Headliners

Yeah.  I used to be an overnight queue person.  Now I arrive later on Wednesday afternoon.  In 2022 I found it really tough going and the Wednesday kind of felt like a write off as the things that I would normally have enjoyed were so heavily over-subscribed as to not be enjoyable (or even get close to at times) and I'd been in half a mind to arrive Thursday after that.

This year I arrived later, said hi to my camp mates and then shot off to the efests meet before catching the drone show and that was it for my Wednesday.

I think people feel 2 much pressure to be on site at first chance Wed - or even queueing overnight - I think if realistically are gonna run out of energy before the end of the festival they probably would be better off arriving a lot later.

I can't really testify to if it is the disaster people make it out if you wanna get a tent pitched on Thur or even Fri - as i normally volunteer - but ive know others get somewhere to camp.

To be fair I agree with this, I arrive on Thursday now and stay in Tangerine Fields. Arrived Thursday in 2022 and found somewhere to camp though it took a bit of time.

Not sure how folks can’t make it through. I’m usually there for 10 days (3 weeks last year) and start partying as soon as crew bars are open.

Maybe they need a different dealer

Fair play. To me it just comes down to seizing the moment. You can never assume you’ll be back. Even for someone like yourself who works on site every year, who knows what will happen in a year? There are plenty of things that could stop any individual from going again. I feel you have to treat Glastonbury or anything else you enjoy as if it’s the last time you’ll ever do it.

They’re a previous headliner and a phenomenal live band though already playing headline slots at smaller festivals! I’ve no idea where they’ll be playing but I’ve been told they will 100% be there and imo that means they’ll play a pretty high slot somewhere on the lineup. They were phenomenal last year and I’m very much looking forward to seeing them again!

You’re right. One day either I decide I can’t do it anymore, or it’ll change so much that I won’t want to go, or I won’t be asked back.Who knows? The latter may happen this year, I’m yet to be offered a place, although it’s still early. Wouldn’t even consider going as a punter

Very wise indeed! Fortunately I’ve treated recent years as such, and I’m increasingly happy I have due to changed circumstances now.

I dont think there was, The National had a tiny crowd, James Blake and London Grammar and Justice have their niche audiences but not enough to make people stay and weren't even on stages big enough to make that much of a difference. We ended up watching The Feeling.

It does seem like they booked the other stages for a massive headliner and got stuck.

The Feeling ended up being one of my festival highlights. It was a great way to end it all.

The Sunday exodus is great, more space, but it doesn’t seem as big as it used to be

I know that most of us here are fanatics, and that's not really representative, but I'm always amazed when discussing Glastonbury on reddit at how many people admit to leaving on Saturday or early on Sunday.  Personally I want to drag every second I can out of being on site, but a lot of people apparently have had enough by mid-weekend and getting home early is seen as being a good idea.

Been a few years since I had a Sunday shift on a Ped gate but when I did absolutely loads of people used to leave on the Sunday.

I mean, the Pyramid field was extremely sparse for Janelle Monae as subheadliner.  SZA apparently drew a similarly small crowd but I wasn't there to see it and The National drew a similar sized crowd to previous Sunday other stage headliners like The Prodigy in 09 and QOTSA in 11 based on my experience.

It's just as likely that there was no greater number who left early this year and they were just differently distributed (Justice, by all accounts drew a big crowd).

Janelle Monae wasn't sub, Burna Boy was. Janelle as a 3rd down on Sunday and especially clashing with Avril was stupidity in the highest form.

I was working Gate C and I've never seen anything like it before.  I got a new supply of passout tickets and literally no one wanted them!

Yeah there was a lot of stupidity involved, but not from GFL. I’ve no idea how they’re supposed to predict ironic behaviour from the punters

I'd be happy enough for Kasabian to replace the Paramore that might actually have never been happening. Kasabian, Biffy, Chappell. I think Kasabian subbing Sunday and Chappell Friday works though best.

A front stage of Chappell fans mixed with camping fans of The 1975 would be... interesting.

The huge resurgence in pop punk and general nostalgia acts was already clear back in summer/fall 2023 (which I presume was when these bookings and placements were determined). And Janelle's latest album bombing was also a big sign. Emily said back in 2019 that she's a huge Janelle fan, so she may have been the one to push for a large Pyramid slot.

The sad thing is, had they packed out the Pyramid with 90's/00's acts on the Sunday last year, rather than anything contemporary, It would have been rammed.

Yeah, sad sign of the times re a large percentage of the demographic.
