I genuinely don't think this is a bad headline trio tbf - even if I'm not arsed by the three, it's still three acts with popular songs and who'd draw a crowd.

I guess it's part of the conversation about what people want this slot to be and whether topping El Pointo should be for up and coming acts breaking into the truly big shows, arena/stadium borderline acts or the creme de la creme who have mega-hits and could play anywhere they want.

I've always shouted for all three.

If I'd been a man with a finger on the booking pulse, I'd probably have tried to get the following post-pandemic:

2022: Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Paul McCartney

2023: The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, Elton John

2024: Dua Lipa, P!nk, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

2025: Sam Fender, Coldplay, Billy Joel

But again, that's a reflection of my booking strategy and personal taste. I'll be the first to point at that and say it could be more diverse. It also comes with the caveat that you're shortchanging other rising stars like Olivia Rodrigo. It is very blokey.

... wait, did she?

That's a story in and of itself ngl.

Remarkably, yes.

There were mutterings a few times that people had seen someone who looked a bit like Lady Gaga in and around the city for a few months, but just about everybody chalked it up to being stuff and nonsense. Saw someone who, to this day, looked very much like her dressed-down look in A Star is Born in the Trinity shopping complex at the time that would coincide.

Crikey.

I found a separate article talking about this, but yeah. Would be quite something to be, say, running a shop and you just want to tell everyone Lady Gaga's popped into your shop but nobody believing you.

Was it Dave Simpson's in The Guardian? Good read about the culture scene up here.

Nah was just a local news website in the Leeds area. Leeds Live I think.

I have been up a few times tbf. I remember getting deafened at the Belgrave Music Hall by the DJ when there the night before a wedding there 5 years ago, and earlier this year saw Kings of Leon at the FDA, which was quite cool.

I concur; I would be massively pleased if that was the trio tbh which makes me think it's not likely at all.

I can barely imagine TayTay wanting to tick Glasto off her list after 2020 and Eras coming to an end, and the attraction of a date where people haven't apecifically booked for you, but only just barely. Would be amazing though.

I had predicted O-Rod before she announced BST, and with that date I think she's a lot less likely sadly. She puts on a brilliant show though, so I would love to see her on El Pointo.

I have somehow always managed to miss The 1975, while enjoying a huge amount of their tracks. Matty Healy Friday, TayTay Sunday? Haha.

Fender is an accomplished musician with some great aongs, would deffo be on a would-like-to-see list, but not easential. Would be a very decent booking though.

Probably should cast the genre net a bit wider tbh: I have heard Eminem come up a couple of times though I was kinda done with him 20 years ago.

Fred would be ace of course.

Hah! So many possibilities still... I love this time of year!

Did they? I hate to say that Download have probably booked a better day than any of these already by booking Green Day Weezer and Jimmy Eat World on the dame day. Lady Gaga and The Prodigy are likely going to clash do that can't match it.

wait for the rest of whatever happens in north america and then compare it. Lollapalooza will drop in quality a third of the way down their poster for example. A lot will share all the same headliners. And theres easily another 50 acts missing from Coachella. Do Lab, Heineken House and Quasar have not announced their lineups and thats 3 stages right there. Quasar will def be the one to keep an eye on. Cause I wonder if they change the scheduling and let it go later into the night. And who doesnt want 3 hour dj sets.

this will def help the glasto conflicts though. Seeing Basement Jaxx and Prodigy would alleviate any glasto stuff. Even Beth Gibbons. So im always happy getting the rare stuff.

You were gonna say this regardless of what they put out, but yeah… they really didn’t. There are some good names there, and Gaga is obviously a big get, but overall the lineup is very meh with some kind of baffling placings (The Marias as the fourth listed act!?). It’s fine, I’d probably be able to make a great weekend of it, but it’s several notches below what they used to deliver.

    • A mixed first day for us. First of all, we were honestly quite shocked that there was no security check at all at the VIP entrance around 7:30 PM. No bag check, nothing. I’ve attended Primavera many times over the years and this felt surprisingly lax for an event of this size. Did anyone else experience the same?   Another disappointment was the communication regarding the weather situation. Primavera has some of the best sound systems and speaker setups in the festival world, yet somehow they were not able to make a single clear announcement explaining what was happening. Instead, people were expected to read tiny messages on screens in Mordor while thousands were left wondering what was going on. A simple and direct audio announcement would have gone a long way.   On a lighter note, this guy absolutely made my day. Sitting right in front of the Estrella Damm terrace, wearing nothing but a long-sleeve shirt, jeans and a pair of Converse All Stars, he remained completely unbothered by the rain. While everyone else was looking for shelter, he sat there wearing sunglasses, calmly watching the crowd as if he was watching a movie.   Absolute main character energy!
    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
