Other "Glasto moment" song contenders are Love It If We Made ItThe Sound and About You.

I've tried listening to them multiple times and the most notable thing is the extent to which they copy The Blue Nile. I know this is now old news. These ones you've mentioned are I think their best songs by a distance. I don't think they are headline material at all but they're one way or another less boring than Sam Fender, so there's that

To say they are not headline material is truly inappropriate behaviour

I am just joking by the way, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I do think this is one of the things which draws people to The 1975. The fans of the bands know that some folk can't stand the singer & the band. It makes you feel like you're supporting the underdog. After all these years the underdog is finally getting the moment they deserve & you almost feel like you played your part by supporting the band.

Go along on the night & you will find a band on stage, who are very grateful to be there & who will give it everything they got. If that is not enough for you. That's okay too!

Gutted this is my first festival without a ticket (c'mon resale gods!) but I know they will smash it. Feels like it's long overdue. I've They will surely play 2 hours, enough material to fill that comfortably.

Honestly not too sure they will. Know their own headline shows tend to be touching that, but reckon they could play as little as ninety still.

Starting to think this June 1 might be the new record. Seems far out to nudge a potential single.

That arguably opens it up to three, even four - or if they are very confident, five - songs.

Working on that last-gasp scenario, think you're looking:

1 - - -

Sex

Happiness

A Change of Heart

Chocolate

- - -

It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)

I'm In Love with You

- - -

10 Robbers

11 Somebody Else

12 - - -

13 If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)

14 Love It If We Made It

15 - - -

16 About You

17 Give Yourself a Try

18 The Sound

The smart thing would be just to stick to a greatest hits style set and only bring in new songs if they do well in advance of the  festival. Although, they don't mind dropping out their popular tunes when it suits them. So would not be surprised if they did end up debuting a bunch of songs no one has heard before.

Always think at a festival most of your songs are "new" to a lot of the audience, so keep it fairly safe. Bore, the crowd with new tunes at Glastonbury and unless they are your fans, they have plenty of other distractions to wonder off and see. Plus, its also a chance to promote your self to the millions watching on TV.

The 1975 are good but how many of their solid fanbase will have tickets, you can say that about any act but they are real marmite. I like them and have seen them 5 times headlining  their own shows, Always with my partner as she likes them. I don't actually have any other friends who like them. They have always been great when I have seen them but the crowd is full of people who like them and a really big hard core set of bat s*** crazy wierd fanatical fans who REALLY LOVE THEM, and cry when they walk out on stage and spend most of the time screaming. I sort of wish, I had seen them at a festival to see what they are like without their own hardcore fans.

Bw fun is Matty walks out on stage and announces I hate nostalga and plays the new album in full with other half finished songs they are working on 🙂

Wouldn't be the first thing. My fear is that they could be really contrarian, which is a gamble.

As my other setlists lean, I think the hits is the way they should hopefully go. They have thirty - thirty - certified hit singles by BPI metrics, at the very least, so there is no shortage. A dozen of them have gone gold too. (I haven't been listing Girls as one option because it seems to have been pretty much phased out of regular rotation, but that is indeed one of them.)

Think the platonic ideal of a set, if it is a dozen-and-a-half songs with no new material would be four apiece from each record, bar Notes on a Conditional Form, which gets two.

Probably looking at SexChocolateRobbers and GirlsLove Me, The Sound, Somebody Else and A Change of HeartGive Yourself a TryLove It If We Made ItTOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME and It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)People and If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know); and HappinessOh CarolineI'm In Love With You and About You.

I could happily leave People. Appreciate it for what it is, but there's plenty of better material in my opinion to air at a Glastonbury headline slot. I'd rather see it go to something else from the record, or even swapped out for a Paris or fallingforyou.

They will definitely have some new material before the festival. When you're in a band & have a new song, you really want people to hear it. Most certainly will be new music in the setlist.

Also they will certainly be playing a few warm up shows in tiny venues.

Not having this at all 🤔.
Can’t be leaving out fallingforyou and Heart Out … and I have just had I always wanna die sometimes blasting out and found myself imagining how good it would sound on the Pyramid

I think the likelihood of Heart Out is less than eight percent.

fallingforyou has a higher probability, but again, can't see it making the cut unless they're dropping some big hitters or pushing on for the two-hour mark.

To be fair, if I'm just sticking my dozen-and-a-half favourites up, I think those two would make the cut for me. But beggars cannot be choosers, etc, etc.

So...I've begun my dive into the 1975 by listening to the new live album. Found it all a bit samey. Could genuinely find myself sat off at the Pyramid being a chair w*nker and have it wash over me and maybe it will grab me. All very samey until the last song - which was "People". Why don't they do more like that? Best song on the album and if they did more like that than remaining in a permanent state of "wet", I reckon their live shows would be a lot more interesting, but that's just my take. Will persist.

I think Sex comes across as a really good live song on that album too.

Same boat as you, I really 'want' to enjoy them, but I'm struggling... I do like some of their songs, but wet is a great description. Plus I just can't get past his cringe, even on that album, some of his comments make me want to spew.

I think they're one of the headliners that "get" the festival. They will know most headliners do around 2 hours. They have enough material to do it, maybe a few fillers I admit, but they definitely could.

I'm gonna go with a set that is pretty much bang on 2 hours.

If they play Robbers, About You and A Change Of Heart + the other well known songs I'd over the moon anyway.

Just for a bit of balance, I also spent the weekend listening to The 1975 on a couple of long drives. Was on the fence before but was surprised how many songs I already knew and liked. Think they’ll be my Friday headliner after all - think it’ll be pretty energetic and if they stick to the main hits I may even know most of them (still not a fan of Matt Healy though 😬).

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
