Cashless?

I'd anticipate that the festival will come out and say something about this in the run up to the festival.

Would seem a sensible thing to clarify a position on because most / if not all will be wondering what the state of play is.

This is the money page on the website, last updated on 17th March.

Over twenty of our main bars will be accepting payment by debit and credit card, on more than 100 card readers. Many food traders will also be accepting cards but not all traders will be able to accept cards, so please expect to use cash over the weekend.

Cash Machine (ATMs) are spread across six locations around the site and all are open 24 hours a day and accept all UK and International cards. The ATMs near Worthy FM are free to use, the other ATMs carry a £2.75 charge per UK debit card withdrawal. Get cash with a friend for company and security and don’t forget, remind yourself of your PIN number and bring your debit or credit card with you.

So places will certainly be accepting cash.

I'll be taking cash and card.

I'm glad to see the feedback from those of us that worked the bars in 2019 has been listened to and each server now has their own PDQ rather than four per bar.

Interestingly Liam Gallagher at Knebworth this weekend is completely cashless and each day has about 100,000 I think.

I hope the system holds out.

Can only imagine the scenes at a Liam Gallagher gig if the bar system went down!

If they get enough inquiries they might say something but theyll assume people will have cards and then go to an atm if need be.

Coachella had us all learn the hard way and went 100% cashless without one word said this year. The system worked fine but it still slowed purchases down in general. There were queues just for waters and snack carts and usually those dont ever have them.

Personally Im just bringing cash. Dont drink so the bar issue wont be a big deal unless I buy a pint for somebody.

I've always used exclusively cash at Glastonbury, but the card/cash question just entered my mind right now. Should I bring a lot less cash this time, cos 'some' places use card. Will it be most, or a minority? What do most people expect? Are you packing much cash?

They have stated that a lot of bars will be accepting card along with cash and that some traders will be accepting just cash and not card. So its still a mixed bag.

95% of traders accepted card last time - the exceptions being tiny places mostly in/around the greenfields and tipis.

Expect it to be more like 99% this time.

Interesting. Makes me think I shouldn't bring much cash ... tho I suppose, as a backup (in the lockups) if I was to lose my card, may not be a bad idea.

I normally take majority cash for the festival but this year I’m going to be contactless payments nearly exclusively. I might have some cash as backup but I don’t think I’ll need it really.

Get yourself an Apple Watch, or Fitbit, or any other smart watch... Even cheaper ones do contactless payments nowadays... Always strapped to you then. 🙂

I'm old school and going all cash. Like to see what my budget is doing, especially over 5 days and because me and wifey split the budget even.

Are there (any of the main) bars that only accept card.

Note: I'm not a complete freak and use card in pretty much all other interactions outside of the festival.

This is me 100%. I like withdrawing my days money from the lockups and have the fear that if I just take my card I will get hammered and spend a fortune! Going to draw out my cash today I think and just have the cars ready for emergencys if stall holders won't take cash!

I usually take £300 cash. This year I’m taking £100 cash and loading my Monzo card up with £200.

Yeah I’m just doing £50 in cash, just in case, then the rest on my Revolut just to make it a bit easier to keep up with/so there’s a definite limit set. I anticipate the cash will stay with me until the Sunday.
