Billie - Macca - Reg

It's happening people!

Whilst I’ve pushed back on reg a few times it’s the fact that this is a Friday date that sets off alarm bells. For an event like BST Elton is a sure fire Saturday type of booking. They will want people to book their hotels in London etc and have people make a weekend of it.

Him doing it on a Friday is very interesting. Almost like he’s somewhere on the Sunday.

I’m now more open to this being an option. Billie on fri, someone else on sat, Elton on Sunday. 😞 Swift

He does - his upcoming tour is back to back to back...

Oh ok. Just as my point above I think it’s interesting this is on a friday. As I assumed he’d done one night playing then one night off. A Friday gig implies to me he’s got something on the Sunday. (But if he does back to backs then I guess it’s not a talking point.)

Sunday would be more likely for him, he only does consecutive nights in the same venue.

Wednesday - Bristol

Friday - London

Sunday - Glastonbury

Tuesday - Swansea

It’s been a great sparring match @Hugh Jass but I think this is kinda likely now. This to me says he says shows planned on the weekend of Glastonbury. And he’s scheduled one of them on a day we know he isn’t headlining (because Billie is).

Well Im going to see if Saturday is on hold for an additional night and then we can put this one to bed. 😉

Lets just say he is on. Maybe this is the pre cursor to just announcing him way early?

I hope it is because I want Swift but I’m not going to discount the chance he’s playing now. Hyde Park also signals to me that he’s going to have a festival set up to his tour including his arena shows.

You've been a worthy adversary Matthew. I am genuinely and sincerely looking forward to buying you a pint at the meet next year.

Looking at his dates for that week he's doing one night on, one off, following that logic he should be playing somewhere on the Sunday night.

It looks a mortgage job to me: Elton John is headlining Sunday night at Glastonbury***

*** Just watch the fucker announce a show at Cheltenham Town FC now.

Would imagine a stadium setup isn't wildly different to a festival one.

All they need to do is lug a piano onto the stage.

Yeah but I think this proves he’s going to have a show ready for outdoor events as well as arenas. The BST and Glasto shows could use the same set up and equipment. I think there’s a lot that can be read into this from a technical point of view.

Fingers crossed for you. I’m sad that this would probably mean no Swift, but it is what it is. The idea of both Diana and Elton on the pyramid on the same day is salivating.

Worth remembering that @eFestivals had Elton down as a SR before any news of this date dropped, which only adds further fuel. Didn't he say that Elton was replacing Macca?

Still all to play for on Saturday I'd say, Taylor can't be ruled out just yet but if it is indeed Bille and Reg then you'd think they would look for someone more guitar-y. Macca most likely, but the likes of Arctics and Coldplay cannot be ruled out at this stage.

My guess now is they’ve gone with their original 2021 trio and the 2020 headliners will be asked back for 2023.

Billie Eilish

Arctic Monkeys

Elton John

I spoke to Michael when we were at Worthy Pastures, and he said Dave Grohl had called him to see if they could play again.

I think the Foos will definitely play again very soon. Dave was visibly in love with the place in 2017 and I can imagine now whenever they want to do UK Festivals they will touch base with Glasto and see what their options are.

I think they will officially join the circuit bands of Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Muse etc that will always make time for Glastonbury.

    • TVOD are playing Blue Basement in London 2/9 with a complete EOTR/Psych Fest shaped hole before their next gig in Lyon on 8/9. Well received in the Big Top last year, reckon they're nailed on for a secret set in the Tipi.
    • Didn't they widen the entrance last year to enable them to increase the number of pitches or have I imagined this? Perhaps they might return under a different form of glamping?
    • It should forever be the Tipi.   Just as the news about Geese was shared on Twitter.
    • It really surprised me that Rock AM Ring made Download feel like an extremely well organised festival with good communication in comparison. If we were to ever try either of them again we would go for IM Park and stop in Nuremberg.     Agree that the long thin mainstage isn't great, but where the mainstage is makes it really hard to navigate when it is busy because of that choke point created by the food vendors, bar/lounges with a view of main and where the crowd is coming form second stage. The concrete is hard on the joints. The front standing is a pisstake and the communication from the fest about what is happening on site other than which campsites are filling up leaves a lot to be desired. Car parks being a free for all doesn't help either.   I think it really suffers being so far from anything other than small towns/villages that lack proper public transport and Koblenz being the closest town which you can can use to get public transport to the fest being 60km away.
    • Yeah its absolutely on me that isn't think Shinia Twain was an awful choice- i get that.  Im still of the paul simon, ELO kind of thoughts but I realise things change. Im still intrigued what constitutes legend though. Robert plant played and he wasn't a legend slot- to me that would have fitted. Is it a ' comedy ' ' good time ' slot now? Comedy isn't the right word - guilty pleasure or something like that?
