Pukkelpop 2021

Recommended Posts

It's funny that a festival with Metallica, Iron Maiden, Kraftwerk, Sonic Youth, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Stone Roses, Björk, Neil Young, Chemical Brothers or Smashing Pumpkings headlining in the last 15 years, claims that their DNA had been always the youngsters.

When did  Mr. Mahassine decide to change the booking policy and why? to satisfy her daughter? This is the question that lot of people keep asking ourselves  every year.

Even this year, they didn't go for a line-up targetted to vaccinated people.

So... time to look at 2022. Will the line-up be 90% the same? I suppose it...

Sad they've cancelled but always a possibility.

Hotel already booked for 2022. Assuming there's more of a shift back to normality there should be a much better pool of acts to choose from.

Let's see what a Pukkelpop edition looks like in 2022. Despite the government support, they're still bound to take a financial hit, and it's not like their situation was even looking bright pre-covid. And Live Nation's supposedly very pissed off, so PKP might just receive a little less goodwill from LN side if an interesting act is also available for Werchter/Dour/...

Why is LN supposed to be pissed off with PKP?

They have a serious share… so this is also a letdown for LN. But maybe Pukkelpop needs another central figure.

A Belgian concert booker launched an open letter this afternoon, slamming Pukkelpop for its hybris.

Notable info in this letter: Pukkelpop stopped responding to questions of the booked Belgian artists and their management weeks ago, giving the impression something was going wrong internally, long before the governmental communication that supposedly rendered the festival impossible to organize.

He thus openly raises the question whether Pukkelpop is using the government as an easy scapegoat for their own failure.

Do you have a link for this open letter please?

Or is it a tricky tactic to sell tickets for 2022...now they sold some tickets to postpone the festival to 2022?! I don't doubt...

I mentioned this a few weeks ago , I never believed in the festival and today here in Portugal in the news saying that the festival was canceled due to lack of covid testing capacity ..... ok ok

Heck of a trick to pull just to sell tickets for 2022. If they'd not announced any names or just a few then I'd understand but to string along 150+ acts plus their management for a festival that they thought was never going to happen is just conspiracy theorist stuff.

I think some of the comments are valid in hindsight. Why go all out if there was a chance it wasnt going to happen.  30k people with 3 or 4 stages over 2 days with vaccined people allowed only would have been more realistic we'd still be talking about a festival that's going ahead rather than talking about a festival that's overstretched itself and ultimately isn't happening.

However , they sold tickets without names ... I still think it was a good move , when we have already seen here that days before the tickets were opened there were bands that canceled .

Will be interesting what countries will be next? Where are some festivals left? UK, Germany, Denmark or Poland?

UK probably has the most festivals in Europe which is amazing considering we've done the worst all round in this pandemic.

    • Another note, if I didn't mention the food in the arena for main stage is right at the back. Bands wise they do very well for but as a festival so far they pros are outweighed quite heavily currently for me.
    • On another note for RIP as an event, there is some good things but there are so many things people going to UK festivals would hate and how far behind they are.  Consistent network and water, beer and pretzel like food is brought around to buy in the crowds. Topping up on the wristband is good. The camping and food arrangement is not good, you really need cooking kit. Water points inside the arena are bonkers, water points in camping are a faff unless you are close enough in general camp. Merch stands are crazy. You MASSIVELY need to think about your lidl shop for camping and try and do it so you've one stop. It's definitely worth it getting to a camping shop here, picking up a rolley between your mates and stacking it for the walk back....lidl is cheap though, not hard getting in but Thursday queues getting in and into the camping is mad. You have to register first for a wristband as well leaving any bigger bags behind so pull to a side if only two and do it separately. I was joining a WhatsApp group for solo camp so went with the flow but I've learnt. Had it been me or just two my tent would have been down much quicker.  Big final note, I got a fresh and black 3 man from decathlon before coming and put in bigger suitcase with my airbed and sleeping bag...do this. Take a smaller option for your clothes. If you go to Munich first, book your train to Nuremberg as far in advance as you can....very important!....it hikes crazy. Probably bettee overall for baggage sizes to do BA both ways but you do then need to go back to Munich after too. Use the B&B hotel hbf the night before....its very nice, comfortable, cheap and within 10 minutes of the station which also serves as a transport stop 15 minutes from the registration.  Get up literally like 5am with everything back the night before, shower and go. Transport is free anyway for festival ticket holders during the duration.  Would I just choose to travel in each day and back to a hotel?, on the basis of sleep and getting accommodation cheap enough for 3 nights i might just do especially if I picked the ticket up early enough. It doesn't feel like a festival in a normal sense....unless you are in general yoi have to exit on the paths outside the camping to walk down and in which also applies for getting water so have a stock up. Toilets are in the camping.
