yeah, this...and I think there will be a lot of fucked off people, but also a lot of people willing to comply if helps.

I just couldn't see people complying in their droves this time, only people pissed off and anti-vaxxers gleefully rubbing their hands together

They'd be as pissed off as everyone- they arent spending their whole lives wanting them to fail, they just want to get back to normality. They're the most anti restrictions from what I've seen

I think the only way to get compliance over winter is to let it get bad. Not right and not how it should be, but how it is

If we'd delayed now there'd have been compliance problems when we REALLY need restrictions. This is the equivalent of giving the population a summer holiday before strapping back in to another 6 months+ of restrictions. Sort of a reset ahead of the next phase.

To use another analogy this is just the intermission (for those who want it). And yes the idea that the intermission is halfway through a show is deliberate. I'm not talking just covid BTW, thats just part of the puzzle now with the NHS

Yeah I think you're wrong about that. Once people are double jabbed they ain't going to listen to restrictions. (Especially for 6 months) who on earth is going to agree to not see friends /families in houses that long?

I think the Tories will ride out the deaths/hospitalizations.

The only way that would get buy in is if people felt an impending threat to themselves. Maybe along the lines of there not being emergency treatment for them or their loved ones...

The guy is nuts if he thinks people will be fine with an extra 1/2 years for a busy NHS

if hospitals are overwhelmed and possibly/hopefully  they wont be ... are you saying you wouldn't do anything ?

I'm double jabbed as are most of my friends and family. I'll do stuff like wear a mask in busy places but I'm not going to avoid friends/family again. I've had enough of lockdowns and refuse to go along with them anymore.

might not have that choice if things are forced to close up .... although obviously depends on your own  definition of lockdown .... id be concerned if people couldnt get A and E treatment personally ... but lets see what happens and if we get to 100,000 or even 200,000 cases per day that Neil furgeson talked about earlier

From my own recent hospital visit I can say that they are busy. Lots of people packed in the pre surgery ward and post surgery my ward was also very full and they were keen to get me sent home as soon as possible even after quite major surgery.

Non-Covid related treatment is happening but they are certainly trying to squeeze in as much of it as possible.

As maths was never my strong point I'm reluctant to criticise an expert, but does this figure of 2.4% case hospitalization really mean 1075 in 10 days time? The hospitalization rate is steadily falling and 10 days ago it was at 3%, if it continues to fall, in 10 days time it could well be at 2% in which case the admissions will be lower than he suggests, all this on top of the fact that the cases figure is directly affected by the amount of testing, it is not the absolute true number of people currently  infected just a guide based on how much testing has been done, so there is no way to predict how many people are going to be ill enough for hospital based on this figure, (the true number of people infected will be far higher than 44777) if he was referring to the test positivity rate and making a guesstimate of overall cases from that I might be more inclined to accept his figures. There is an old saying, "lies, damned lies and statistics", the number of false assumptions and misinterpretations of data during this crisis is staggering, people should be questioning every "fact" presented.

I dont need to I can rely on you for that .... your opening line of maths was never my strong point doesnt help fill me with confidence though

People who would never go to clubs or festivals now have a stick to beat people with who do. Germaphobes who would quite happily see Glastonbury never happen again. Jealousy and insecurity.

It's a pretty simple calculation, if I'm wrong just explain why.

“We do things differently here” 🙄. God I hate this northern virtuous attitude that it’s only them who have a moral compass. Walk down through Manchester City central, hundreds of people without masks on public transport and in shops. Give in Burnham. Stop trying to start a culture war.

Tbh I just read the opening line and didn’t bother with the rest

in which case your first line "I don't need to I can rely on you for that" doesn't make any sense. Still, I don't blame you for not thinking about it, no point risking changing your opinion.

    • Yes, that's why I think Interpol would be a good fit for the Wednesday so that they don't take up a prime Mordor slot on the other days.
    • but it is loyalists doing the rioting...so he can also make a point there.
    • I don’t know what was going on with SEE tickets for Phoebe Bridgers this morning.. I had a presale code, got into the sale after queuing for 15mins with the green bars of doom.. but no map to choose seats from, just categories like “aisle seat” and “reserved seat” and sometimes a drop down of the section, but you had no idea where in the section the seat was… then you clicked through and either got “no tickets available” or a captcha which just kept looping no matter how well you selected the thing it was asking you to identify.. then eventually it spat you out to another “not enough tickets available” message.. I went through that loop SO many times.. I was doing captchas endlessly.. it was totally borked.    in the end I went back to the email with the presale code in, it then directed me to ticketmaster rather than see, still for Manchester, and I could then see the tickets on the map .. get them in my basket etc ..but there was only upper tier left.. so going to try my luck on ticketmaster for the main sale.. SEE was total garbage!
