I always took it mean that week.

Last day would be 25th Feb for schools to reopen March 8th.

DOH, forgot Febhas 28 days! I dont think the schools and roadmap are linked closely to that extent. Can announce school to reopen on the 22nd and then the roadmap that week

Have the nerds got to the government and told them to keep us locked up for a few months 'to be sure?'

Originally Johnson said the roadmap would be presented to Parliament on Feb 22 for them to vote on in the preceding days. As has been mentioned it would then give schools 2 weeks to reopen. So if the Feb 22nd date slips then in theory school reopening does too.

they dont need a parliamentary vote to reopen schools though. They could just reopen schools for March 8th with 2 weeks on the Feb 22nd, and then do the roadmap stuff that week

First of all “everyone catching it at the same time” is a total misnomer. Even if the R number was allowed to go as high as 4 (which it wouldn’t due to vaccines, immunity and low level restrictions) it would take months to sweep through the remaining population.

Secondly, can you provide any evidence that the NHS could be overwhelmed purely as a result of covid admissions among people who don’t fall into the JCVI groups? I haven’t seen any admission data on people who are (a) under 50, and (b) No health conditions, but knowing what we know, you need an awful lot of cases in this group for one person to need hospitalised. Also worth remembering that these groups will have the highest levels of natural immunity as they’ve been the least careful throughout the pandemic.

I’m not saying that a reopening ISNT a risk to the NHS, but we need to see some data on the hospitalisation rate of younger people to explain why it would be. Furthermore, if prevalence can be driven very low over the next month, we’ll be in a position to try opening up for a bit and see what happens because the NHS will have a bit more breathing room. We can always lock down again if the hospitalisations creep north.

Plus a lot of the younger cohorts have now had Covid. I'd say at least 50% of my friends have had Covid, none with more than mild flu like symptoms. I'd assume that some of them have also had it but were asymptommatic.

Clearly a few will get hospitalised, but I think given the fact that there will be some level of immunity from previous infection and also the likelihood that the vast amount of the younger cohorts will have mild symptoms or no symptoms at all, it would be good to see the data as to how many are likely to get hospitalised. This data would actually help with compliance as I know the majority of young people, myself included, would be prepared to take the risk once the vulnerable are vaccinated, as my sole reason for complying with restrictions was to look after the vulnerable like my parents, grandparents etc, not myself. Once they've all been vaccinated then I and my friends who share the sentiment would be very happy to open up fully. If however there is data showing that we face a strong risk of severe illness, then it may help the government garner more support for keeping restrictions in place. It certainly would make me think twice about going back to 'normal' life.

As well as the hotel quarantine website crashing and no bookings showing as available early next week, with only four days to go, it turns out they announced it wrongly and you need to quarantine for 12 days, not 10.

And if you're planning on landing in Manchester, Stansted, Luton or ferry via Dover, you'll be turned back.

Might have been an idea to have mentioned this beforehand...

Only Dover? So every other port is ok then. Lol

I bet Rishi Sunak goes to the pub as much as he goes to Nando's, which he also couldn't wait to reopen. Let's hope he tweets about the pub while giving a thumbs up to a souvenir shop again.

Private members' club maybe.

Yeah I know, it’s so cringe. It’s all about ‘brand Rishi’ and making him out to be a man of the people.

That’s not the point. The point is that they said they’ll give schools 2 weeks to reopen, if they don’t announce anything actually on the 22nd Feb then school reopening will slip. Don’t worry though I’m sure the government will stick to their word.

Well, lets see what happens! if it slips, then it slips. My point is that the road map slipping doesn't mean schools reopening has as well, since they can still announce schools reopening on the 22nd without the road map

For what it’s worth the parents in my team at work are expecting schools to not reopen on the 8th. I suspect they aren’t alone with those thoughts.

I reckon they will have some years going back...maybe some of the early years at primary school, and year 11/13 at high school.

He's such a disingenuous tosser, but as usual so many people have been taken in by the fraudster. As much as Hancock sold his soul and will say anything on TV, at least he tends to make the right call behind the scenes, Sunak doesn't even have that.

Simon Calder tweets.

Not seek it but probably due to quarantine doesn't start to the next day after arriving. So the first night doesn't count, then 10 full days so would need to stay the 11th night too.
