China where they've been draconian with their lockdown measures, including checking people are isolating have pubs and clubs open and celebrated new years as normal. If you think this is North Korea then I suggest you read up more on North Korea....

Not being funny but I’ve been to North Korea through Koryo tours, I spent 10 days there and got to expierence the weirdest trip of my life

Didn’t realise we live in North Korea, this is so stupid

Hey, I see you're new here.

There was a discussion about what a stricter lockdown could look like and I put forward one way that this could be enacted.

Wasn't an endorsement, just kicking about some ideas to add to the discussion.

If you don't agree with you can use your words to do so in the threads but don't go down voting people just because they're adding to the discussion.

As a Husband and Father I believe it is my responsibility to ensure the financial safety of the family. If I was to lose my job in the middle of a pandemic it’s unlikely I’d be able to do that.

I perceive lockdowns as a likely pre cursor to this and therefore can’t find it in myself to support one.

Sorry for how terse that was, 7 year old demanding my attention, will try to write more nuanced reply later.

Yeah that's the major downside. The anti vaxxer lot would probably grow even larger.

I know France though had forms to be allowed out in their second lockdown so I was sort of extrapolating a scenario from that.

They would never use something like that but it does open up a bigger discussion point about technology and using it in the pandemic.

That isn’t a worthwhile trade off IMO. I can cope without pubs and clubs for a bit longer to not follow China.

Yeah that's fine but then people have to accept that's the trade off and can't then moan about larger more all encompassing lockdowns.

That's not very fair on the people that were saying Christmas relaxations would lead too this and that for this one Christmas a January lockdown wasn't worth it. The point being that the people that really wanted Christmas got a version of what they wanted so now we have to have a lockdown. I think I asked the question a month ago, something like, 'how many people wanting Christmas will moan about the January lockdown?' (I'm not saying you are moaning btw).

You do realise the worst areas didn’t have a Christmas relaxation?! So it’s got nothing to do with the surge in cases.

Ahahah fair play - maybe you're one of the only people allowed to use it as a comparative then!

Crazy 10 days, government minders taking you to see a hospital with no patients, a grocery store with fake groceries and having to bow 10 times a day to their portraits of their leaders. Very weird place

Tallied it up today. Six friends of mine in ldn have either positive results or have been exposed to a family member or flatmate which has recently tested positive.

Pretty scary stuff. Feels like there is definitely a more infectious strain going around!

I understand the point, but his direct quote was "on schools, I don't want to add to the chaos that would be caused by having all schools closed tomorrow" before telling us that more school closures are inevitable at some stage. With the TEU firmly behind closures to the point of suggesting teachers effectively take strike action, I think he should be supporting the Unions and teachers more than he has done here.

Sir isn't that big on the whole unions thing though, is he (compared to Corbyn anyway)?

If he's going to call for a lockdown then he needs to be clear it is for everything, not sit on the fence about schools. He's supposed to be leader of the opposition, not a doorman charged with waving through all government policy.

Me too. Just heard today a friend has tested positive along with members of his family and also another friends wife has family members that have tested positive.

I don’t wanna start an argument but he’s doing what you’re asking. He’s called for another lockdown, what else can he do?
