Am I going to have to sit through 5 days of lockdown so some families can sit together, stuff themselves silly and then fall asleep infront of the tv?

I suggested some people might like  to enjoy watching some football safely distanced outside  .... for some that might be preferable and much safer !!!

If she's drinking that much I'd recommend boxes rather than bottles from a filling your wheely bin perspective if nothing else.

Great advice. I switched from bottles to cans purely because my local council doesn’t collect glass recycling.

I would imagine the lockdown would be much longer than 5 days if we are allowed the Christmas like was reported.

no, I was meaning we'll need 5 days of lockdown (or tighter restrictions) for every day of christmas family joy. Except it will be in January.

Sorry dear Sir I miss-understood you.

Good news today on infection numbers .... a slight drop off :) lets hope this becomes more significant over the next 2 weeks .... Thrown out by them saying the numbers weren't due till after 6

Screenshot 2020-11-18 at 16.59.15.png

This is also the first week with a consecutive Monday and Tuesday drop in case numbers since 7th/8th September.

% Positivity also fallen to c7.2%, which is lowest for almost 2 weeks.

Keep calm now.....nobody make a sudden move.

Sums it up for me really...and yet we are going to.

Two speeding trains heading right towards us in December, and we're just stood there on the tracks waving at both of them

The socialist campaign group are revolting. And McCluskey.  This is going to go on and on...could end up destroying Starmer as leader...and ultimately splitting labour. I guess had to happen at some point. What a hill to die on.

The socialist lot aren't exactly making a Labour including them sound particularly trustworthy as a government if they're THIS hard line over things. Imagine if Starmer got elected and they overthrew him...

A bit of socialist policy would be good - NHS etc. But these nutjobs seem to want it fully...well I saw a quote that says you only get to vote for socialism once. And in a country with deep rooted inequality like this there is only one way to fix it and that's forcibly taking things from the haves and giving them to the have nots, and it hasn't historically gone too well...

Totally agree.

Priority should be shops and restaurants where livelihoods will be majorly at risk if they can’t trade over Christmas and then have to lock down again in January, yet the whole focus is on one day. Grossly unfair to put those jobs at risk just so people can spend one day with family.

maybe they'll split...form another party. National Socialists or something?

Yeah I'm starting to get super pissed off about the christmas thing. As someone still following distancing and not going round other peoples houses. It seems so annoying it's like the people following the rules are making up for people who want free reign. If everyone was sensible about restrictions and actually followed them then we might not be talking about needed a day off for christmas.

Furthermore yep, its such a conservative move to think christmas, is worth an extra week - month of lockdown, when we could have just had smaller christmas's. Everyone wants to see family and friends, but the more we do stupid shit like this the longer that'll take - it's just a fucking holiday, one that isn't celebrated by millions of people in this country. (saying that as someone who loves xmas)

Just thank god we're not in america where there's gonna be no enforcement of lockdowns etc until biden gets in.

Seems mad doesn't it? There's going to be some sad stories and situations, 'Last Christmas for Grandma to spend time with the Grandkids', that sort of thing and yes, it's been a shit year and people want something to look forward too, but for most people, can't they just suck it up a bit longer?

I've worked Christmas Day more often that not the last few years. And even one of the years I wasn't working I ended up stuck on my own in the middle of no where. It was a bit shit, but I dealt with it and then the day was over and it didn't matter

    • Another one from Sheffield DocFest this weekend, Earth Wind & Fire docu, directed by Questlove. Sensational archive footage, contributions from band members, family, plus a lot of very big fans (Stevie, Lionel, Flea, the Obamas) and a warts n all assessment of the genius / flawed human being that was Maurice White. Also, I never realised he started out as a jazz drummer with Ramsay Lewis. Well worth a watch.
