Recommendations thread

I thought it could be fun/useful to have a band/artist recommendation thread where people can posts the acts they already enjoy and plan to see, then others can recommend similar acts at EOTR this year they should check out.

General recommendations are welcome too

...I'll start; my highlights are: Deerhunter, Mitski, Courtney Barnett, Pom Poko, Kelly Lee Owens, Wand, Kikagaku Moyo

Any recommendations for me? (particularly interested if there are any energetic bands that will have a lively audience!).

Pom Poko, Stella Donnelly, Mitstki, Parquet Courts, Bodega and Gazelle Twin would probably be my top ones.

But I'm also looking forward to Fontaines DC, Black Midi, Jessica Pratt, Wand, Kikagaku Moyu, Courtney Barnett, Jockstrap, Jade Bird, The Beths and so forth.

Energetic bands that could have lively audiences, at least if they're on the right stage at the right time, would include Bodega, Black Midi, Fontaines DC, Pigs x 7, Viagra Boys, Sweaty Palms, Squid, The Murder Capital and doubtless some others. (There's quite a few such bands this year, actually.)

I've found the line-up this year a bit more challenging than last year's - there's more stuff to get me out my comfort zone, but I'm really getting into the spirit of that now, and I've got more than enough on my must-see list that I'm almost certainly going to have some majorly annoying clashes.

Really looking forward to seeing Fontaines DC, Stella Donnelly, The Beths, Martha, BC Camplight, Mitski, Israel Nash (has a great Neil Young vibe to him), and Ohtis (debut album is fantastic. 

I know there’s not been a lot of excitement for the headliners but Beirut and Spiritualizeds new albums are great, and I think Metronomy, Parquets and Jarvis will be great fun. 

I’ve literally created a playlist of over 2,000 songs from the line up and shuffle it every time I go for a run, and I never get bored. There’s so much to discover.

On top of what Yoss has already suggested, you've got Parquet Courts, Wire and Goat Girl ( who I'm a big fan of). 

I'm not their biggest fan but Sleaford Mods would also have a lively crowd I would imagine.

Now I've given them more of a listen I'll definitely be watching Bodega.

Would agree with domjon - having recently seen Black Country, New Road - unmissable. Same goes for Black Midi. The Beths are also a really good live band and lots of fun.

My other personal must sees right now are: Spiritualized, Deerhunter, NOV3L, SASAMI, Fontaines DC, Courtney Barnett, Low, Wire, Beak>, Mitski and Squid.

Have seen Stella Donnelly a couple of times now - bit twee but always good fun.

The Black Midi album is something special...I have seen them live several times as well (including this week and next week at Rough Trade East) and they never disappoint.

Certainly a band to look in to if you've never heard of them...although they are getting such massive hype at the moment I'd be surprised if any serious music fan hadn't heard of them by now.

Every year at EOTR for the last three or four years there's been this consensus on MUST-SEE artists - they always seem to be four or five scruffy dudes playing derivative post-punk.. In the past it's been Shame and IDLES and Fat White Family... this year it's Fontaines DC and Black Midi... the latter are a very good band - Fontaines DC aren't up to much though

I've seen Black Midi and Fontaines DC this year and found both disappointing given the hype. If I'm to big up just one newish band on the bill that I have seen live it would be The Murder Capital.  After them, it would be The Beths and Black Country, New Road.

saw fontaines at glastonbury - they didn't blow me away.  Pond who were on afterwards were much better.

Shame/Idles/FWF are really not my thing... I've been enjoying listening to Black Midi though and will probably be seeing them instead of Goat Girl.

I went to Best Kept Secret Festival and saw a few acts that are playing EOTR as well. Lewsberg and Crack Cloud were ok. Spiritualized were class, Viagra boys were alot of fun. Though the highlight was Yves Tumor who might upset music purists expecting his live show to sound like his records. He does really put on a show and definitely will surprise everyone
