Janet Jackson Headlining?

but that's about something she'll have demanded, that Glasto will have done to make her happy. Her ego.

And not because she's actually a headliner.

But she's bigger than all of them combined, globally. Literally. Artistically and commercially, so it doesn't even matter. It will be all about her at the end, like it or not.

It's irrelevant. David Hasslehoff is (was?) massive in Germany but he's yet to get a spot at the top of the Glasto bill. :P

Like it or not, JJ simply isn't of the status to headline a UK festival of Glastonbury's size.

(it's a great booking all the same btw. Something a bit different).

Nah the answer is simplier than that. Her management suffer from the American effect.

American acts who are headliners in America demand headline slots globally regardless of whether they are a headliner globally.

She had more top 20 hits in the UK than any American female singer, except Madonna. More Top 20 hits than Robbie Williams, Prince, Celine Dione, ABBA and almost everyone. And unlike Britney, she had No. 1 albums in the UK. So comparing her with someone I don't even know who that person is, it's a bit silly.

He's said she's a great booking, but she's not headlining Glastonbury by any actual definition.

hey, i'm not knocking her or her output (tho it's not my bag), I'm just stating the reality of where she sits in a UK context. She might have had the hits, but they've not had the necessary cultural resonance.

Why a woman that played the largest stadiums at 5 continents (stadiums, not arenas) wouldn't be a global headliner? And Kylie that sold all albums combined less than Janet one of her albums, would be? This festival is not only for British people. It attracts tourists too.

Kylie isn't headlining either.

20 years ago maybe she'd have headlined, but her songs aren't instantly recognisable to every generation like the greatest hits of all of those you've just mentioned are. It's a good booking and must have taken a lot of hard work, but her fans definitely do too much. We all know why her profile isn't what it was, but unfortunately the fact she was thrown under the bus by Justin Timberlake doesn't mean her cultural status should be imagined as bigger than it actually is.

Its part of a re-launch strategy innit.  She'll be on the Pymild but she ain't topping the tree.

Number of hits is immaterial really. After all The Killers only have one.

And theyre fronted by a Vegas impersonator of Baz from Viz's Fat Slags. Natch.

I have reservations about her rampant miming/vocal dodging.

Soz to be -that guy- but its kryptonite to me as some of you know.

Yes, this is the thing that could put a dampener on this set for me.   Although, Dolly got away with it!

Forget about Justin. Janet's music is so respected that she has 4 albums at almost all relevant lists of the best albums ever made. Often in Top 10. Think about Janet as an innovative and influential musician, not about Janet as the best-paid music artist in history. She is, and Brits made her the best-paid but that's irrelevant for this festival. Her artistry is the reason. She's respected.
